In maart 1978 werd het schip verkocht naar Libië, herdoopt als El Fatah en is in 1984 gebruikt als doelschip voor de Libische marine. En werd tot ontploffing gebracht, en zo zonk het schip in de Golven van Sidra.
I put the radio on, nothing, in school they were asking the teachers where has radio Caroline gone. no music radio can only be evil doing it, unable to pick up radio 1 on 247 up here in the north, I was devastated. My father said I have got a big ship for you, keep watching the news and then it came on the most powerful pop ship ever with global reach, and the evil that thinks that it is good, jammed, bombed, impounded. My father who just happens to be God.
You can still listen to RNI on the net. rni (dot) net (dot) ms will take you to the site to find the music feed. It is great and still has the unique sound of RNI
Such a shame that the Mebo 2 could not have been preserved instead of being bombed and sunk for target practice by the Libyan military....I think Colonel Gaddaffi should get a slap ;)
Yep, good ol' 'Twiggy' Day, Monday to Friday on BBC Radio Berkshire (and various other regional stations), still sounds exactly the same, and plays quality music as always. And who's on Saturday nights? Dave Cash...
Great memories.. i remember these sea pirates in the 60s and 70s they were far better than anything else on at the time - The BBC were very poor and if not for the pirates they would be still playing Al jolson and reading the news in dinner jackets today - Thanks for posting!
