"Greg Johnson, StarFlight's lead designer, helped write dialog for Star Control II and Paul Reiche III contributed to Star Control II's alien communication system"
im also gonna add that it made it harder for speedgamers(compared to the starflights). only fast way to earn money in this game is to find the rainbow worlds, and exchange the melnome creds for lots of fuel., THEN sell the fuel. in both SFs, planet logging earned you enough creds to beat the game within an hour or 2, if you knew where to go. and SF2 added trade routes.
@mindlesstube I was going to say that too xD hahaha. And the music just fits. It's like he's at the Spathi High Council party. In fact, that dude sounds like one of those motivator/announcers from those 80s discos.
this game taught me so much... from the different types of minerals and how they are catagorised, to how the different types of aliens resembled different types of humans, (illwrath are the religious idiots, pkunk are the hippy idiots, drudge are the slave traders, spathi are the cowards in number, thradassh are the 'redneck's of the galaxy, ugma are the crazy scientest) etc, etc. no matter how many grandtheftautos come out, this in my book, will always be the best game EVER...
Know it's been a while since you were here, but are you telling me that what I'm hearing to be possibly the best game in existence according to some is available, in full game glory, by free download?
Omg I like that game!! I first tried it when I found out about it on old games or something. And it was the best sci-fi game I ever played! They really should remake that game on a console or something, 2D or 3D won't matter... Still, the BEST GAME!
I agree with you all. The-best-game EVER!!! I've played it since I was 3, and it's been 13 years now, and I'll never get bored. The sequel is not so great, but I hope they'll make another with today graphics and even better. Or someone should make a movie! If anyone wants to play melee online with me, just send me a message. Oh, and Rabspat, why didn't you go to Pluto first to get Fwiffo and mine the minerals from mercury? It's the easiest way to start the game.
Star Control II is the same thing as the Ur-Quan Masters...the Ur-Quan Masters was simply a PC port of the...3d0(?) version of SC2...I played both versions and they're exactly the same except the 3d0 version had speech when you encountered aliens if I remember correctly.
@sm753 StarCon2 was released on PC. I have no idea how I got my hands on it way back in 92 but I did (and thank goodness I did). This version was called The UrQuan masters due to ownership rights. Community based open source project.
I wish to correct you. This is actually the introduction to STAR CONTROL II! The best game ever. Ur-Quan Masters is simply an adapation. But I must admit, Ur-Quan Masters is how it should be, since the sick powers that be at Accolade won't release the name "Star Control" Fred Ford and Paul Reiche III
This was indeed the best game ever when it came out! I still have the original disks somewhere from the 90s. Watching this makes me want to play it again!

i'm gonna be a jerk and say it ripped off starflight, and made it prettier with a much bigger filesize. algorithim generated worlds died too early.

Funny that, as it was coded by some of the same guys.

@survival12345 What makes me sad is that games like these are more of a rarity nowadays.

Best. Game. Ever.

The best version was on the 3DO system with better graphics.
Starcontrol02 4 years ago
Ur-Quan Masters is the best version. It takes the best of the 3DO version and puts it on the PC essentially. Plus it's free to download.

It is! Google "Ur-Quan Masters", it will be the first result on a Sourceforge page.

The newest version of Ur-Quan masters does have speech the whole game through. It is the original voices too.
