The voices were developed using sound models based on the Japanese language system, (vowel and consonant pronunciations) so when they try to convert to an English version, they just don't sound quite right as English contains vowel sounds that do not exist in the Japanese language. Still pretty impressive though.

@xMikuxMadx Gumi's a Japloid. She's not designed to sing in Japanese. You probably have her confused with Sonika, a green-haired Englois that looks similair to Gumi.

The reason why it seems like such a short time is because Megpoid wasn't made by Crypton, I think she was made be "The Internet Co" or something like that? So both were most likely being developed at the same time and Luka came out before Megpoid.

She reminds me of a Yanmega.

Design squabbles aside, I think she has quite a nice voice. Though it would have been nice to have another male Vocaloid...
