read the new book out biochock: Rapture....it talks about the rise and fall of rapture of the first game, and when you read it then play the games you can fully understand the whole story in the game........
wow like seriously, bioshock infinite got nothing on rapture, rapture as an underwater city, inhabited by big daddys kicking splicers ass, raptures thirst for ADAM,the creepy classical music in the backgrounds,on the other hand we have a city floating in the sky...SMH
Anytime I see this part I think a lot about it. I understand, that in the Vatican society is God-centered and in that time Russia was communist, but what about Washington and the poor? In that time, the USA was the most capitalist country of the World and as far as I know, it was not poor-centered. Can you tell me what is it here about Washington and the poor?
@gyokszi You pay income tax there, part of which goes to welfare programs, roads, low-income housing projects and what have you. Objectivists (like Andrew Ryan) are completely opposed to that. All form of income tax is an abomination (again, according to them).
@gyokszi Before the events of the game, Ryan witnessed Roosevelt's socialist policies and declared them to be terrible. Objectivism is kind of right wing.
Either the 'masterpiece' comment is meant to be ironic, or the uploader has completely missed the point of the game, ie. "Here is why Ayn Rand was so very, very wrong."
Either way, it's a lesson in why you should try to keep the cam as still as possible when screen-capping.
"I am Andrew Ryan and I'm here to ask you a question: Does a YouTuber have a right to be free from trolls? No says the man in Washington: trolling is for inaginationally poor people. I chose - Rapture! A city where the artist would not fear the censor, where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality, Where the great would not be constrained by the small! And with the sweat of your brow, Rapture can become your city as well.'

Looking at the description I just figured Id tell the poster of this video (which I thank him/her for by the way) that this game is a commentary on how Ayn Rands philosophy doesnt work. I dont mean to be confrontational in any way if anything I take my position in a gentlemanly manner but Rands ideas are imperfect in the sense that they neglect situational complications of people and assume that everyone has the ability to redirect their life For this reason I wouldnt call her work a masterpiece
@fubudge Actually, it seems that Rapture thrived until Andrew Ryan himself betrayed those ideals. His paranoia led him to use force against those who oppose him. A no-no in an ideal that says every man chooses his own fate.
@Beljora Nah, there were major problems even before Ryan betrayed his ideals. You had the criminal mastermind Fontaine, who pretty much became the most influential person in Rapture because of all the poor ones wanting to cheat the system. You had the plasmids, slowly making everyone go insane. And you had the loss of morality after the great technological advancements of ADAM(little sisters, Cosmetic Ideals et al.) Plus, the capitalists like Suchong profited from the civil war by worsening it.
I would love to see Andrew Ryan somehow timewarp into Columbia and his reaction to such a nationalistic society that treats the American founding fathers as gods.
Not that it would ever happen officially, so some fanfic writers better get to work!
@DKDioKlau Don't be so ignorant, just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it makes no sense. He hates the governments of the world and how they oppress people and take their money, so he built a city for people like him where governments wouldn't control them. "A city where the artist would not fear the censor, where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality, where the great would not be constrained by the small!"
What do you mean HIS? Ayn rand is a woman. An bioshock does not protray rand's beliefs 100% correctly. Ayn questioned what she believed but Ryan never did. Ayn rand's nonfiction writings were not about amorality or anarchy however that is what Ryan was about. Fantasy is not reality. Remember that next time you say something without thinking.
You in all seriousness considered this a tribute to Ayn Rand and his philosophies? Did you even play it? The game reads like an essay refuting Objectivism step-by-step, each level a different paragraph showing in detail the hypocrasy and logical error of Randianism. I'm including a link to this video as part of an essay I'm writing about Bioshock as a virtual essay refuting the points of a women often used as an in-joke by much of the academic philosophical community.
@Kelpalots Maybe he's being artsy, trying to take you back to the first time you set foot in Rapture and were like, "holy shit, everything's all wet, HOLY SHIT AYN RAND" or whatever.
its longer, has a better story with more twists, the levels are bigger and less tubelike. the 2nd part has the remote hacking tool which is cool and using a gun and a plasmid at once is also good but overall the 1.
It's fitting that Ryan is a video game charachter and, were he around, he would be very supportive of anti-piracy :P

I am King Leonidas, and I am here to ask you a question: Is a man not entitled to kick Persians down his own well?
No, says the man in Persia. No man, Persian or Greek, no man threatens a messenger!
No, says the man in Rome. Madman! You're a madman!
No, says the man in Athens. This is blasphemy! This is madness!
I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose...
SPARTAAAAAAAAAA.

I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question:
Is a man not entitled to built a city?
No, says the Giant Eagle; I'll eat your eyes.
No, says the Hand of God; I'll bitchslap you.
No, says the evil hammer and sickle; in Soviet Russia, city builds YOU!
I didn't understand a word of those answers. Instead, I got bored and chose the ridiculous. I chose...

What is the difference between a normal youtube user and a troll?
A youtube user makes a video. A troll asks "Where is the dislike button?"
A youtube user post. A parasite says, "First comment!"
A youtube user invents. A troll says, "Watch out, or you might tread on the toes of YouTube..."

A city where the artist would drawn uncensored bullsh*t.
Where the nerds would not be bound by petty bullies.
Where the great would not be a b*tch slave the small.
And with the money of your wallet,
This city under the sea can become your epic city as well.

um this game basically parodies rand.
Ratama 1 year ago
@Highlandheadbanger
Remember that next time you say something without thinking.
lashkaretoiba 1 year ago

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Ayn Rand is a bad person.

BS1 was so much better then the 2nd part
cocojumb0 1 year ago
In your opinion.
AzureKiru 1 year ago
its longer, has a better story with more twists, the levels are bigger and less tubelike. the 2nd part has the remote hacking tool which is cool and using a gun and a plasmid at once is also good but overall the 1.
but youre right its just my 2 cents
cocojumb0 1 year ago
Again, longer and with more twists is more fact, while better story is opinion.
AzureKiru 1 year ago
i totaly agree with you i have both and dont find the second as good.
