@lynekab my comment should have said "I did not know he was Clarence Williams III's grandfather". The elder Williams died in 1965, so he did get a chance to see his grandson's budding career and the changing attitudes toward Blacks. I wish Williams III would do something on his grandfather whether a film or book. He can provide information that others may not know about or this history could be forever lost.
This is great! I've never heard Clarence Williams sing before!
The lyrics get wackier and wackier (whackier?), and when they culminate in "I'm gonna kill you just for fun" seem flat-out bizarre, UNTIL he winds up with the last line about someone messing with his wife. It's possible that someone DID, and he got mad, wrote this tune, and recorded it. Certainly, he had the clout to do so. Makes sense!
Thank You !! Been looking for this song from Clarence Williams for some time now ! It's been one of my favorites since I was a kid - but no one seemed to know who I was talking about.
Clarence Williams was one of the greats. For those who like this song, also check out some of his other songs like: "I Can't Dance - I Got Ants in My Pants", "Won't You Come Over & Say Hello?", "Longshoreman's Blues", and "Pretty Baby is it Yes or No?".

The only disappointment - he never takes a piano solo; I was expecting him to wail at least for one chorus!

John Fogerty did a version on his self-titled record in 1975.
Lyrics are re-written I believe.

How violent. This new music is going to end up creating some bad stereotypes.
