For guitar solos, david is GOD. he may not have had the improv skills that the late great Hendrix and Allman were blessed with, but he creates such an incredible atmosphere with his guitar. I'd love to hear his take on the Stairway to Heaven solo!

Gilmour has been an inspiration to me for a while. I have never heard such passion in a guitar than any other artist. It's going to be so sad when he passes away. Lets hope that, thats not too soon :)

David Gilmour is the reason i started playing guitar in 1982. I learned to mimick him pretty well in our own music with double and tripple fret bends, sometimes up a fifth. but to do it with his emotion is hard to recapture or duplicate. Gilmour to me is the best and always brings out my emotions in music better than any other guitarist. And yes his solos are harder to hit than alot of page/clapton/hendrix/VH solos where they just play there fastest and there riffs. There is not as much emotion

David Gilmour's solos may not be technically complex, but the feeling in it is so hard to capture while playing them, and while listening to them you can almost feel his presence in the room. Thats why I think he's so great.

I totally agree about how powerful his solos are.

However, I think there is actually quite a bit of technique needed in order to play them correctly and sound good. The amount of bends and re-bends Gilmour does is insane. To have that control like he has takes a certain amount of effort needed to hit every note on its correct pitch every time.

I'm personally having a harder time playing some of his solos than the guitar solos of his peers.

I don't get how the Time solo is only #15. It doesn't get better. This solo is beautifully constructed, but then again the same could be said of the rest!
