  • He put his heart into his saxophone..........love it......

  • BRILLIANT.......

  • simply beautiful... talent.. just enjoy

  • It was nice, but it didn't seem like the most complicated song...

  • @Molyneux12321 He did this to be understandible for everyone...

  • I think I'm gonna start playing saxophone :D

  • stfu simon

  • he's amazing saxaphone player

  • 3:46 theres a fat man crying

  • @JLmusicBase guess the tough looking guys are always the most emotional...

  • omg i love the sound on the instrement awesome job bro

  • God bless this guy, i wish he could have win....

  • Epic sax guy indeed.

  • to bad, jazz musicians dont get as much attention, i also play sorano sax, and alto, and the songs he is playing are so easy, he has a good tone but what just saying is thousands of people can play better than him and never get noticed by playing jazz.

  • @black0lightning But the difference is that he was actually there playing and not crying here in youtube how much better others can do the thing he does. Maybe you should go to some "talent show" or what ever they call these nowadays. It's not just his playing of the sax but his presence too that captured everyones attention. Say what you want, reply as you please but i will not even read it cuz i know there is nothing but bitter words in it. Have a nice day.

  • Toca bem mas nada de mais.tenho o mesmo som em meu soprano é so por um efeito re reverb e ele fez respiração circular simples tambem faço se for assim esse programa não é la essas coisas.

  • plainsf1@aol.com

  • Not kidding, playing soprano saxophone is VERY hard. i know cause i play one. But i play me alto much more often and better. I also met Julian and got his autograph (for me and for two of my friends) also guess what i am the same grade as him!!!! :D

  • Wow that really something. I could listen to that many times over.

    good Luck Julian

  • What kind of Sax is that....I actually want to know. I play Alto Sax and I want to know what kind it is.

  • @mrtofupeanut soprano...

  • How precious! He looked like he absolutely couldn't believe that they liked him! And how sweet with his wife at the end!

  • I wanted him to win! He was amazing! :')

  • Alguien me puede dar el nombre de esta hermosa cancion???? xfavooooor!

  • Julian smith's parody of this brought me here... a camera not a gun... lol

  • @melvis975 that brought me here 2 :)

  • @melvis975 ikr!

  • @melvis975 me too lol

  • amanda is so sweet <3

  • What's the song he's playing?

  • @HuggumsMcgehee Somewhere from West side story. I could be wrong, hah.

  • Comment removed

  • julian tine un angel especial que lo acompaña y transforma una hermosa melodia en algo angelical, y las notas que emiten su instrumento musical no son realmente impulsadas por sus pulmones si no por su corazon.

  • I bet he could really pull off a very fiery & technically astounding performance full of mind boggling riffs and all that... BUT... that is NOT the point... In a contest like this, the judges and the audience look for something that will touch their hearts... something for the FEELINGS, not the BRAINS... then, when you've already established yourself, that's the time when you may show off :P

... After all, music is for feeling, not for thinking :)

  • the majority of the people are fucking jaleous......so desapoiting try to do half of what he does motherfuckers

  • ...........how is that tear-worthy...he had a tremolo effect going on a loud ass amp. ergo the constant vibrato. bring a real bebop saxophone player up there

  • @xemosintightsx i agree, how is this amazing. this is grade 4 standard.

  • I encourage his love of the sax because he has a great tone but I wish he would play something more difficult then a few notes.

  • Did this guy win?

  • His humility was even more beautiful than his music...

  • 20 years and thats all hes got?

  • Julian Smith, aka joolz Gianni or something like that, he already has got CDs out before he even went on BGT, guess which recording label its BMG, Simon Cowells label, fix or what ?

  • Simon's face at 2:36, haha PRICELESS!!

  • eat a hot a dog bun... its not a... not a gun

  • 16 people actually understand and like jazz

  • @addyr100 You didnt understand what Jazz is though. He doesnt play Jazz, he got an awesome intonation(?) and uses it to touch ppl

  • @andrewbrianhodge Isn't he always a dick

  • Eso no tiene nada se sorprendente!!!!

  • SO GOOD

  • best for everr

  • Julian, the way you play that Saxophone is just great. Be yoursef and don't try tp imitate others and be Julian the original. Fantastic sound and composition and also dominance of the saxophone. Wish you the best for your future.

  • his guy has that McDonald's of jazz sound.. what a joke.. sounds like kenny G.. its sad most people don't have a conception of what good jazz should sound like.

  • @fighterdude83 I'm with you! You seen Pat Metheny's rant on this subject?

  • @jnoir87 haha thanks i just read it. i'm going to send it to all my kenny g hating friends :)

  • @jnoir87 yeah i hate it when people make people not even give jazz the time of day by playing this crap it pisses me off.

  • 1.50 - 3.11 was the best part.

  • wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww wowwwwwwwwwwwwww

  • @andrewbrianhodge its simon haha

  • name song ? please

  • @buiductoantg63

    Il Divo - Somewhere

  • @Tony07Ca

Somewhere, Somehow. From West Side Story. *

  • @buiductoantg63

Somewhere, Somehow. From West Side Story.

  • What is the music name?

  • @7bn20 It's in the description, pal... Somewhere, Somehow

  • @JeoXus haha i thought you ment it was "somewhere, somehow" in the description xD

  • @tnkanubite Lmao lol no =] That was funny xD

  • wait, thats, thats it? seriously? man

  • Plays well - but the massive talent is Leonard Bernstein's.

  • i can do that with my ass.

  • 2:53 orgasm

  • Simon yes, is nasty and impatient....but whenever he listens or sees something he thinks good, he turns nice and appreciating~! Unlike Amanda, who "cries" all the time....!

  • Cut out the background music so we can really enjoy his talent.

  • @amandauz under pressure - queen

  • Kenny G clone. Nothing more. 2:47? Complete and total exaggeration. That's not high or hard to play.

Want to listen to someone worth hearing that's his age (actually, slightly younger)? Antonio Hart and Matt Pivec are good places to start. There are plenty of great saxophone players that are relatively unknown. This man is not one of them.

  • @confoozled3737 Yeah, I never would have thought of G# as being a big finish.

  • can anybody tell me name of the song in the first of clip, thanks

  • what is the name of this song ?

  • Listening to his playing doesn't get old for me. I don't remember how many times I've listened,

  • thumbs up if you crying too without noticed :')

  • ta bn!! vale es buenisimo..

  • @Kels0608x simon seemed particularly in a foul mood that day

  • Finally found it after being tricked by two parodies lol.

  • OMFG this is true talent

  • he has genuine musical talent but i hate the soprano sax its so ducky

  • @MetallicA145678910 Man, you got that shit flipped. This guess is a joke, and the soprano is a gorgeous instrument. You have probably never heard it played correctly in your life.

  • can someone please help me in what song he is playing ty

  • @MultiMatrix2011 Somewhere, Somehow" from West Side Story

  • 0:12 HANDSOME!!!!

  • I usually dont, but I have to agree with sinisternilk, there was nothing really to the song, to the style, the whole audience stood up and cheered over him just sustaining some notes?! Maybe if I just raise the saxophone up higher when I play...

  • This wall just shows how little people listen to instrumental music nowadays. There's nothing special, unique, or better about Julian than nearly any other undiscovered, reasonably good sax player. His tone is mediocre. His intonation isn't bad. Although he cared about the piece, he did nothing to shape it. The performance could have been from a high-schooler.

Julian isn't bad, but please go buy a Michael Brecker or Chris Potter album. You people need to hear what a real virtuoso sounds like.

  • @sinisterniik As I was reading your comment I was thinking "finally, somebody who gets it". Then I saw you recommend Chris Potter and Michael Brecker. . . You have great taste in music my friend.

  • So now everybody knows it's fixed, they forget the fact that Julian Smith was robbed of the win so it could be given to a little kid who would make more money from stupid young people.

Julian Smith won this series.... The only reason he didn't is because it's all fixed.

  • 8 people are robots.

  • @IttyBittyAsain You are stupid, sir. 8 people know what a soprano should sound like. I could teach your dog to play better than this chump in half an hour.

  • @checkster12 no, sir. you are stupid, this person has a real talent and it sounds amazing and so what, i know how a soprano sounds like. no matter what he sounds like, from the bland ear, it can change a person's perspective in this kind of music. im sure my dog can play better than you. and oh, im a 13 year old girl, chump.

  • @IttyBittyAsain I never would have guessed you were a child. Its not your fault, you haven't been introduced to real music yet. Go look up a real soprano player, not this joke. Look up Branford Marsalis, Wayne Shorter, Seamus Blake, Chris Potter, Josh Redman...anybody but this smooth junk. He plays like 3 notes with terrible tone, into a mic that makes him sound worse, and hes bouncing around like a moron. And his vibrato is unbearable. Look up a real player.

  • @checkster12 i have not been introduced to real music? how are you supposed to assume that? and no. its not my fault. because there was no fault. just by listening to it, without knowing what its supposed to sound like it inspiration enough.

  • @IttyBittyAsain You haven't been introduced to grammar either.

  • @IttyBittyAsain Checkster12 is right, and has given you many great players to listen to. Don't waste your time listening to this garbage.

  • can anyone tell me what type of sax hes using

  • I like this song chan. Thank God that I've heard it here thank you very much

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA 2:42 looks like hes about to JIZZ IN HIS PANTZ!

    might i add beautiful...

  • he just opened up my soul and heart

    i'm crying like a baby

  • I think im gonna be sick.

  • nice tone...only played like about 5 notes tho...

  • all you haters have no idea how extremely hard it is too play the soprano sax.

this is real music. with a REAL instrument. all the music you hear, the recording studio probably didn't have even a real drum a mile near them. all they use now is electronics to make music. just a click boom. but this, right here... is no "computor". he's doing the work. lets see you try huh ?

  • i thought he should of won!!

  • what is the name of the song tha plays when he enters the stage.

  • @thekidnextdor Under Pressure By Queen!

  • @rugbyfreak81 thank you!

  • british fag with funny accent

  • Possibly a very nice guy...one that might want to pick another talent that doesn't involve playing saxophone. Kenny G mastered that style and he's not that great compared to real players like Coltrane, Lacy, Vinny Golia, Joe Ford, Gary Thomas, Brecker, Branford so on so on.. Yes I compare. He has no talent...only to those that know nothing of playing saxophone might disagree. Nice dude though.

  • not going to lie.. i like the parody more

  • Nice tone (probably more so due his mic and preamp than technique), but he's not an amazing player...

Easy tune to play so I would have liked to see a little more interpretation.

    Massive over-reaction from the judges...

  • Freakin a man holy crap i saw the other julian smith the comedian one and saw this same video but the other one right crap this dude has got some balls

  • great saprano sound, that is very hard ot get by the way, but a very simple song, could have done something either more interesting or technical

  • I wanted him to win. havent heard of him since.

  • The Kenny G of Britain?

  • May the blessings of heaven be upon this wonderful musician...so wonderful, God bless.

  • @MrSteka2 Wow, this guy sucks. Any high school sax player could play this piece. I can play way better than this guy. There is absolutely NOTHING special about him.

  • @PwnStarr i agree that any highschool player could play it, considering I am a highschool player, but the difference is the quality of tone he produced and the way he brought out the emotion of the song. Its not about how hard it is, but how much emotion you put into it and he certainly delivered

  • @vicpdt Sure his tone is better than your average high schooler. However, 1000's of sax players could play that, and they're making way too big of a deal out of it.

  • WOW!!!

  • Well hes no epic sax guy...

  • this guy is awful!!!!! no joke its terrible ... you guys are all crazy to think this is real talent, its just like kenny G and the only thing kenny G Cds should be used for is toilet paper!!! You want to listen to some real talent check out actual original musicians such as Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus ...... guys like that are kings among men. Seriously, sex appeal does not make music good!

  • this guy right here is talant , to all artists out there keep persuing your dreams, and to the best of luck!!

  • the saxophone is so sexy

  • You know, it's nice he can produce a good sound, but he really is nothing compared to most good players. I've always been a sucker for the beautiful, mellow sound, though, so he gets five stars in my book!

  • anyone who doubts this man is completely ignorant, he is a fantastic saxophonist, and musician. People like this deserve a break, unlike the mainstream pop artists that use publicity and really don't have any true musical skill.

  • @codebuster93 This guy doesn't have very much musical skill either, he's playing smooth jazz, the easiest form of music to play besides pop.

  • I cry on and on while listening. I can't stopping watching.

  • Im in love

  • may our dearly Lord continue to bless this wonderful, talented individual.....what a talent bro....it really hits my heart ....this is a great/wonderful music...very emotional....I love it, especially the way you performed it bro....the body language....wonderful..Like to see more of you bro.....keep it up....and God bless you bro.

  • He honestly isn't all that good. Don't get me wrong, he's an amazing player...for a highschool concert band. I don't think he should've made it as far as he did.

  • Thumbs up if you searched this video after watching the julian smith parody! :)

  • @JuStInCrOsS1000 yeh thats right

  • @JuStInCrOsS1000 LOL!! I did search this video after watching the parody!!! :P :P :P

  • the song at 0.47...name ?

  • @2:42 jizz face

  • i was lookin for julian smith the funny dude....

  • I'll comment when I'm done puking

  • @IndexJazz LMFAO!!

  • boo...any 8th grader can play that

  • @TJazzFreak give me a video of u doing that this might loo easy but it takes years of practice to do this

  • Comment removed

  • THIS IS ABOUT A GRADE 2 PIECE AT BEST!!!!! HOW THE F*CK DID HE GET SO FAR!!!!!!! I CAN PLAY BETTER THAN THIS!!!!!!

  • @thty100 Because he can type without capitals

  • Comment removed

  • @thty100 who care you can play it or not, but we heard he play here and we can feel it, he play with feeling, and you type with negative feeling (jealous) too ...

  • @thty100 why dont you upload a video of you playing .. and everyone decide who is better

  • simons impatience really annoys me

  • @Kels0608x Well look at it from another angle - this is a nationally broadcasts TV show that is filmed live in front of a huge studio audience. Julian created dead time by messing with the set up. It may have only 25 seconds but when you're in that sort of situation 25 seconds is a VERY long time. Consider how much advertisements pay just for a 30 second spot on air? It would have been best to have everything set and configured beforehand. Then you go on stage, do the intro and play. Simple!

  • @nsmadsen yeah I understand what your saying and I do agree but the poor man must have been nervous enough without having Simon act like that, I mean he looked peed off whilst Julian was introducing himself. I'm just thinking, he was probably concentrating so much on giving a really good performance that he didnt think to sort it out before, I just think Simon could be a little more understand at times.

  • He should have played Bakers Street

  • @alexnzxVersion2

even though thats an alto playing...

  • THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE..... put a smile on Cowels face.... you where brilliant Julian, am so sorry I missed the program

  • It's not just about the instrument. It's also about the man.

  • THIS IS SHIT!. learning a musical instrument good enough to play a slow song like this perfectly does NOT take long at all. This man is talented, but for god sakes learn a new fucking song ive been searching youtube searching for something technical from this man and all i find is "somewhere" . im willing to say 70% of suprano sax players can easily play this just as good or better. theres no way that this act is worth a million dollars, and the fact that he made it to finals infuriates me.

  • @Lando1Live y r u jealous... just bcoz u dont know how to do shit....

  • fuck me, it's Kenny G!!!

  • That man has spirit

  • wtf ? after 3 blows they applause ? never heard saxophone before?

  • So lovely :)
