Seen,Him around 98-99 on The Junction Seven Tour :Had, quite an array of Musicians and Band was Tight as Nails. He ,did all the catalog of Songs up to then .Saw Him Outside later on and He was extremely down to earth and Kind ,A,one of a Kind to say the less, Always fresh Talent from Him /Peace /Thanks [and we share the same B.D.] .THANKYOU...
There's one really sad thing to say about Steve Winwood: The man made the (maybe) best song of all times, a masterpiece, a product of true and genius, a song which stands above nearly every song ever released - but instead of playing it live, he plays ,,normal" Blues and totally ignores the AWESOME Synthie - Era of his career.
Why beeing common / boring when you have the chance to play THIS MASTERPIECE (!!!) with Synthesizers and great Instrumentation live?!
Indeed, it seems that he's listened to the critic sickness of "synthesizer hate". At last it was very strong here in Brazil, after 80s. I don't know why, but it's a instrument hated by the (so called) specialized critics. The bare it only confined at (also so called) "electronic" music (what pop music isn't?).
"Valerie" for shure is keystone to french House, but look at what the critics make with another great Keyboardist who has the bad luck og being a guitarrist also: Eddie Van Halen. They simply killed Van Halen keyboard work. It's like a "guitar music conspiration". It seems that the power of a phat Prophet 10 or a swirling OBXa fright the guitar radicals to dead.
And look that I`m a synthetist myself who loves the eletric guitar...
Russ Kunkel? No, no... You're wrong. That's Hulk Hogan. He used to wrestle in the 80s, but joined some famous music acts on tour during the early 90s (between his tours, he also was able to star in ,,Thunder In Paradise").
Where'd this come from? I know this was done in Yokohama in Japan, but does ANYBODY remember what year or tour Steve did this version of the only Winwood song I like?
It was the summer of 1990, as a matter of fact. That is when he had his "Refugees Of The Heart Tour". I can tell this is that tour by what he is wearing, and the band.
Yokohama Arena, Japan 22 march 1991
Randall Bramblett (sax/keyboards), Larry Byrom (guitar/keyboards/vocals),
Russ Kunkel (drums), Luis Conte (percussion), Michael Rhodes (bass),
Thanks for sharing this video.
