All bickering about interpretation aside, this is possibly the greatest musical structure Bach concieved in his career. In scope and success at cohesively integrating the wild array of motivic ideas and contrapuntal devices. My favorite piece from Bach's mature period. It is the Climax of the Klavier-Übung III.
@PraeludiumUndFuge "Light speed tempo"? What a foolish exaggeration. The walking bass is moving at a walking speed. The "lombardic figures" have no "purpose" other than ornamental. Bach included such ornamental figures in other pieces but later removed them. They are not a important as you imagine.
@wcbroccoli this rendition is too outside my boundaries of expectation honestly it just jars when I hear the piece played so fast. I associate this piece with longing, and dreariness, I don't quite appreciate the playful abandon displayed here. The bassline, figures and motion bear no weight. Koopman plays BWV 682 at just the right tempo. Maybe a little faster can slide, but this is over the top to me.
@wcbroccoli for my taste it's too quick I've definitely appreciated this piece more when played in a more meditative tempo search for koopman bwv 682 to see what I mean.
Definitely on the rushed side this performance is.
I feel with that statement you haven't really gotten to appreciate this piece. I've seen you typing your foolish opinions around youtube like an arrogant little jackass.
There's a lot that goes right past your head my friend I'd suggest you tone down the act a notch.
In the Bach 2000 collection version he plays this quite slow. For now this is my favorite version. No problem about the version, this is still quite enjoyable. Cheers!
GRANDIOSE!

Hell i'd say this is going at light speed tempo. Those lombardic figures simply fly by almost without purpose.

This is probably the most difficult chorale prelude by Bach. And in my opinion it's also the most beautiful! Kay Johanssen is always excellent....

This tempo is just fine. It's not "rushed". It's not even a "little rushed".

@PraeludiumUndFuge I've heard this played much slower. This faster tempo is just fine. It's not "rushed". It's not even a "little rushed".
Name one thing that has gone right past my head.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but curiously enough Koopman plays this quite slow and drearingly. I quite enjoy that version.

Do you happen to have a slower rendering of this? The tempo is a little rushed here. A slower one (like Koopman's) would be so great.
