But seriously, I've heard that elevator technology can be vastly improved by utilizing magnetic levitation technology thus eliminating the need for cables. So one could infer that the limit to 500 meters no longer exists for future buildings.
@CaptCrunge or an elevator that can also move sideways as well as up and down, such was visioned for the big pyramid for japan, although the pyramid itself may never be built though the technologies developed could be
