Gravy (For My Mashed Potatoes)" ... Dee Dee Sharp's followup hit to "Mashed Potato Time" in 1962 ... love it!! Read somewhere that she passed on "Locomotion" in order to record "Gravy" so "Locomotion" ended up being recorded by Little Eva who was Carole King's babysitter, but I don't know if that's a true story. (Carole King co-wrote "Locomotion.")
hi there!!! i started searching for this song and all I really had was the name gravy, I used to hear it when I was 6 years old in 1969...and I remembered the red and black 45..when I saw it was like getting in a time machine...thans for posting!!
I remember when I was a kid my godmother had a great Voice of Music Hi Fi console and her daughters used to play this album all the time. I really liked it back then even though I was only a child. Thank you so much for the wonderful memories
The single version of this song has so much more vitality and energy to it than the album version. I'm hoping that a CD with the single version might come out before too much longer...
"Mash Potato" by Dee Dee sounds like "Mr. Postman." The same chords were used and there was a law suit over the song. Motown was not happy with Cameo Records.
you have no idea how long i have looked for this song and proove family that i am indeed not crazy and that this is a real song thinks a million for prooveing my sanity and posting this class song
love this song

Tracy Turnblad, once again your ratted hair is preventing another student's geometry education.
Tracy Turnblad: It's feathered, not ratted.
Geometry Teacher: Whatever you call it, it's a hair-don't.

Yeah... it seems like SO many songs from this era used that same simple chord progression. I'm not sure how anyone could get mad about it.
I love Dee Dee Sharp's music, too!
