So you have to charge the battery for 6 to 8 hrs. to drive 36 to 40 miles!!!??You're not saving the earth by going from gas to electric you're just burning a different fossil fuel.Volt=fail, car that runs on water=win!
Ya to fuckin bad the people that actually cannot afford to pay 4$ a gallon pwr gas, and that would get the most uae from the volt, can't afford the car
How big is the gas tank on this thing? It looked to me that after the gas kicked in, he had a range of 199 mi before he needed to fill up again, plus the 36 mi (really? only 36 mi off of electric?) puts it at 235 mi. W/a 8 gal tank that's still <30mpg's. Full size trucks get comparable to that...and the price tag on these things is incredible. Is it supposed to make me feel better that I've already partially paid for this car via the bailouts that were forced down my throat? I think not!!!
@tylertyler82 For your information, the Volt is NOT a hybrid!.....it is called an Extended Range Electriv Vehicle (E-REV). The small efficient internal combustion engine automatically switches on once the main batteries are depleted and the gas engine powers the electric generator that powers the car so you won't get stranded. The gas engine never powers the wheels directly, unlike a true hybrid like the Toyota Prius or Honda Insight. Most commutes are 40 miles or less. Come home, plug it in!
Nice review. I'm glad car companies are going down the tech road of bringing electric cars into the world. It will be wonderful to be off oil as well as not have to deal with those middle-east crazies anymore, plus the air will become cleaner.
I find it interesting that your review is so different than the reviews of the pros, with this at about 80% HIGHER price tag than the Ford Fusion or Prius hybrids:
"Fell well short of its maximum range potential under battery power."
"Expensive, heavy, not-great economy when running on gas, a bit short on back-seat and cargo space."
"Questionable value; small backseat for two people only"
"might be the ideal green car if it weren't for the staggering price"
the interior looks too econo
