I think I would just have built 3 long beds instead of 3 rows of 3... there is alot of room there in between beds you could have used for more plants... just my opinion tho, any garden is a great garden!
@nathuwjohn Hi! It is weed block. I highly recommend reading the Square Foot Garden book and it will explain all of what you see in this video (well, except the sprinkler..that was my idea!). Thanks for watching!
Wow, nice garden! I just started mine 2 weeks ago for the first time, and I think they're doin' great! Do you have any tips for a beginner? I also need some help identifying my plants, I forgot to write the name down of the seeds :p. Anyway go to my channel if you think you can help me out or just want to see my garden. One question before I leave, how much water should you give plants that are just 2 weeks old? Thanks, Marc.
@mamacass1972 This is my third year and I hope it will be my best!! I am trying to be very proactive on fungus and insect control. Thanks for watching!
Thankyou for sharing your garden with us. If you had to do it again, would you have more or less than 9 boxes.I'm trying to get an idea of how much I can produce in my own yard, I would like to have enough to try my hand at canning .How are your berries doing?
Hi! Thanks for watching! I would have more beds!! 2 of my beds are perrenials, strawberries and asparagus. I can only harvest them once a year for a short time of about 6-8 weeks. I am actually considering transplanting all perennials out of my SFG so I can use the space for annuals. Blueberries need a more sunny spot! Happy gardening!
Wow! The way you laid out the gardens is very pretty and I'm sure it will look gorgeous when all the plants and the sod are in. I loved the trellises you picked for the cucumbers too. I can't wait to watch more.
I live in southern California, and just finished watching all your videos....You are my inspiration....I went out and bought the book. I can't wait to start my own square foot garden this year. Thanks so much for posting your updates on you garden..I cant wait to see what your asparagus will look like. Keep the videos coming!
I hope you enjoy your garden as much as I have mine, I am learning so much! First, I just wanted to see if SFG's would work, now, I am ready to try seeds and growing rare vegetables! It's fun to grow with your garden. Happy Gardening!
What exactly is in your soil mix? I did the "Mel Mix" and everything comes up great, but the plants are very small and don't produce much. I have a cauliflower plant that's 3 inches high, and is already going to head...:(
Hi, great videos! I just have one question - did you paint your boxes white? Or did they come like that? I bought some wood today, and I want to paint it white...but not sure what paint to use! I don't want to use a paint that might be harmful to my plants! Any suggestions? Thanks! Happy gardening!

Very Nice Donna ive been watching all your videos after work its interesting what your able to grown in your country. i live in the UK south west the hottest part so im going to try some of the veggies you can grow there grapefruit outside here is a no no but i do grow oranges and lemons in a hot house here and our cucumbers and water melons can only be grown in a greenhouse and our peppers but i have grown chillies outside,
My company, Cool Springs Press, publishes the book by Mel Bartholomew, The All New Square Foot Gardening. Thank you for spreading the word on all the benefits of a Square Foot Garden!
Looks fantastic, I'm putting in a square foot garden at my place right now. I've got hardly any space at all so I'm trying the tiered boxes also. I hope it turns out as well as yours did.
I see that you have the irrigation head in the center of the beds. Have you had trouble keeping the soil evenly most thruout the whole bed once the plants are taller than the irrigation head?
Actually, I rarely use the irrigation system in the beds. I installed it mainly for times when I will be on vacation. The heads which irrigate the lawn do an adequate job of keeping the parameter of the boxes watered. If it is particularly hot, I may run them for about 10 minutes. Now that I am getting more experience at the plantings, I like to put the tall thin plants, like peppers around the center, and the bushy plants, like bush beans in the outside boxes.
Way to much space between the beds..tighten it up .

Nice, but I would recommend removing all those grids - and use the grid "sticks" for trellising instead.
Otherwise - great job!
