  • Way to much space between the beds..tighten it up .

  • Good job on your video I liked it very much!

  • @gwk4657 Thank you for watching!

  • I think I would just have built 3 long beds instead of 3 rows of 3... there is alot of room there in between beds you could have used for more plants... just my opinion tho, any garden is a great garden!

  • I was in the panhandle but have since moved to NC. Thanks for the tip anyway!

  • Where in florida are you? Im in kissimmee Make sure you water at night or you will burn your plants.

  • Where in florida are you? Im in kissimmee

  • thanks dalan14670 you are my inspired to turn my yard into Vegetable garden any good ideals on getting grass up

  • Hi, at 1:10-what is that black material under the bed? thanks! beautiful garden!

  • @nathuwjohn Hi! It is weed block. I highly recommend reading the Square Foot Garden book and it will explain all of what you see in this video (well, except the sprinkler..that was my idea!). Thanks for watching!

  • Wow, nice garden! I just started mine 2 weeks ago for the first time, and I think they're doin' great! Do you have any tips for a beginner? I also need some help identifying my plants, I forgot to write the name down of the seeds :p. Anyway go to my channel if you think you can help me out or just want to see my garden. One question before I leave, how much water should you give plants that are just 2 weeks old? Thanks, Marc.

  • you should plant radishes they could grow almost anywhere and are easy to grow

  • This is awesome! How long have you been gardening?!!!

  • @mamacass1972 This is my third year and I hope it will be my best!! I am trying to be very proactive on fungus and insect control. Thanks for watching!

  • That has got to be a pricy undertaking.

  • Nice, but I would recommend removing all those grids - and use the grid "sticks" for trellising instead.

    Otherwise - great job!

  • Wow your garden is massive.

If I were you I would plant all my tomatoes against the white fence to give protection from the wind & sun.

  • @fatturdburger Oh!! I would love to, but the humidity is so high here...I have to have FULL sun all day long!! The fence shades..POO!

  • what part of florida do you live ? im in Port Richey Florida wow we are neighbors check out some of my garden please subscribe to my channel

    thanks

    Julie

  • Nice job, Donna. check out my Gardening videos on YouTube.

  • Make sure your seeds or plants are not GMOs, check it to be sure!

  • Thankyou for sharing your garden with us. If you had to do it again, would you have more or less than 9 boxes.I'm trying to get an idea of how much I can produce in my own yard, I would like to have enough to try my hand at canning .How are your berries doing?

  • Hi! Thanks for watching! I would have more beds!! 2 of my beds are perrenials, strawberries and asparagus. I can only harvest them once a year for a short time of about 6-8 weeks. I am actually considering transplanting all perennials out of my SFG so I can use the space for annuals. Blueberries need a more sunny spot! Happy gardening!

  • Wow! The way you laid out the gardens is very pretty and I'm sure it will look gorgeous when all the plants and the sod are in. I loved the trellises you picked for the cucumbers too. I can't wait to watch more.

  • Thanks so much!

  • I live in southern California, and just finished watching all your videos....You are my inspiration....I went out and bought the book. I can't wait to start my own square foot garden this year. Thanks so much for posting your updates on you garden..I cant wait to see what your asparagus will look like. Keep the videos coming!

  • I hope you enjoy your garden as much as I have mine, I am learning so much! First, I just wanted to see if SFG's would work, now, I am ready to try seeds and growing rare vegetables! It's fun to grow with your garden. Happy Gardening!

  • very cool.

  • Thanks!

  • What exactly is in your soil mix? I did the "Mel Mix" and everything comes up great, but the plants are very small and don't produce much. I have a cauliflower plant that's 3 inches high, and is already going to head...:(

  • Hi, great videos! I just have one question - did you paint your boxes white? Or did they come like that? I bought some wood today, and I want to paint it white...but not sure what paint to use! I don't want to use a paint that might be harmful to my plants! Any suggestions? Thanks! Happy gardening!

  • Hi, I've watched most of your gardening videos, and you have such a great garden! I just have a question - did you paint your boxes, or were they that color when you bought them? If you did use paint, what paint did you use? We just bought some wood today and are thinking that some paint would look nice...but I don't want to use paint that will hurt the plants. Any suggestions? Thanks!! Happy gardening!

  • 'With the help of the kids & the husband'.....Somehow, that makes me GRIN REAL BIG!! Your garden is awesome....and your video's are too. You were my inspiration this year. I can't thank you enough for sharing your garden in this way!

  • They did not hold up to the hot Florida sun! See my later video, around part 26 (I think). I am trying roman blind slates.

  • good idea with the dowels as separators. i'm going to try that with my sfg. good video!! inspiring!!

  • Also try roman blind slats, see my later video, around part 26 (I think).

  • Donna,

My company, Cool Springs Press, publishes the book by Mel Bartholomew, The All New Square Foot Gardening. Thank you for spreading the word on all the benefits of a Square Foot Garden!

  • It is a great book! Thanks for printing it!

  • Looks good. I put gravel between mine and only used a 3' gap between them.

  • Low maintenance....great idea!

  • thanks for sharing! doing our mel's mix tomorrow...

  • Happy Gardening!

  • Looks fantastic, I'm putting in a square foot garden at my place right now. I've got hardly any space at all so I'm trying the tiered boxes also. I hope it turns out as well as yours did.

  • Thank you!

  • I like the watering idea, its very easy to do.

I can't wait to try it at home.

  • Wow, my hubby just made me some boxes too. The drip system is in and I am waiting to put in soil and plants!

  • You will love it!!

  • nice

  • I see that you have the irrigation head in the center of the beds. Have you had trouble keeping the soil evenly most thruout the whole bed once the plants are taller than the irrigation head?

  • Hi!

Actually, I rarely use the irrigation system in the beds. I installed it mainly for times when I will be on vacation. The heads which irrigate the lawn do an adequate job of keeping the parameter of the boxes watered. If it is particularly hot, I may run them for about 10 minutes. Now that I am getting more experience at the plantings, I like to put the tall thin plants, like peppers around the center, and the bushy plants, like bush beans in the outside boxes.

    Thanks,

    Donna

  • I love what you folks are doing! Great job!

  • Oh it's wonderful! I would like to have such a beautiful garden one day. You have inspired me.

  • Holy Cow - It's fully automated! All you need now is a shopping cart!

  • Genius Idea!

  • Your gardens look great! They're so neat & tidy. I'm jealous! I hope everything is growing well for you.
