  • @Dolphins1312 To take them from their natural habitat and limit them to a fish tank is animal cruelty.

  • Continued, There are alot of people who claim to be seaworld trainers on youtube, and they usually respond to my concerns with either abuse or they simply say that the Orcas are loved and cared for, Please I know this is true already, I would really like to hear the Seaworld side.

  • I'm aware that Trainers care for the Orcas. You must be aware that this circus is illegal in more humane countries, I know that the show must go on, I' m not campaigning for release it would cause distress and they lack the survival skills. what concerns me is that i disagree very strongly with breeding of Orcas or obtaining calves from elsewhere, training them to be human dependant and teaching them to perform for profit, I think that there should be no more captive breeding for this purpose,

  • They cannot stop the reproducing of orcas. That wouldn't seem fair to them. Thats just like stoping a woman from having a baby and telling her no your not allowed.

  • That's a human response not a humane response, but I do respect your view, good comment.

  • I think these Orcas are broken, surely it is more humane to not break anymore.

Keeping the topic constructive, is there another solution?, could they continue to breed but with the mother being released into a natural enclosure with the calf, joining a growing pod.

Do you think that would be a good way forward?.

  • Cont' I feel that Seaworld should carry on with the Orcas they have which should provide a few decades of shows,in that time gradually adapt to more of a Rescue and rehabilitation centre, with a sea enclosure. It's really very spectacular what you get these Orcas to do, but it's not in their best interest, The common defence is that they're happy and cared for, but I feel that is because they're broken, you couldn't get a mature wild bull orca to do these tricks. Please I need an expert response.

  • sea world does do rescue and rehabilitation for the orcas but if they cannot go back out into the sea then they have to be kept at the shows.

  • If a young wild rescued Orca is fit enough to perform in the shows, surely it is fit enough to be returned to the wild.

As I say if they had a natural sea enclosure, Rehabilitation would be a sure success, especially if was within a pod. I think maybe if a decision to keep a rescued orca or to return it has to be made, then it should be done independantly of Seaworlds Commercial interest. an outside body should decide what is best for the Orca.

  • But what if the orca is not fit to be put back into the wild is what I mean. That's when they keep them at Sea World. It's whale and dolphin conservation. The only reason why they don't have an outside body decision is because, as you can see, everyone argues about it =/

  • No I agree with you, If a Marine Mammal is not fit to be returned to the wild then there is no option, and I think that such an animal should be encouraged to be as active and as occupied as posible for it's own well being, and yes that would possibly involve performing, which highlights my view really, That it is an abuse of nature to take a Perfectly viable young Orca and to train it to do circus acts rather than to survive in the wild, it is a sad waste of that Orcas full potential.

  • If the Orca is not fit enough to be returned to the wild then of course it must be kept in the sanctuary of Seaworld, and If it can perform to some extent then doing performances would be good therapy, It would keep the Mammal fit and occupied.

  • Well many people don't seem to understand that concept. That's what Sea World does. If the animal can go back to the ocean then why keep him. He's wild and has been all his life but was hurt and neede to be taken care of. That's what they do. Thank you for understanding. You're the first to understand what I have to say.

  • @oldskoolchopperboy These whales need to be "fit" and "occupied" because captivity is a boring, understimulating place to be. If you haven't noticed, wild whales do not need performances to remain physically and mentally healthy...that is because their environment contributes to their welfare.

  • Be happy seaworld no longer captures cetaceans from the wild, but instead through its own breeding programs and park-to-park transfers. If captive orcas were unhappy, they wouldnt breed, cetaceans, like humans, are one of the few animals that actually mate for pleasure rather than to reproduce. Most of these animals have been in the parks for 20-30+ years and now know the seaworld tanks as their homes.

  • Nah I read your other comments, trust me I'm not the "happy-go-lucky un-educated shamu luvr that so many people put themselves out to be. I just tire of people applying human characteristics to captive animals when they have in reality absoultely no way of knowing whats going on within their brains......anthromorphism, applying human characteristics to animals, they see a captive animal then automatically assume its unhappy strictly being because they arent "wild".

  • I don't think in most cases that it would be an 'automatic assumption' to conclude that the marine park environment is'nt right, on every level, It is not a simple question of mental happiness, The question concerns their natural wellbeing as a species, Does our interference with nature have a detrimental effect, after doing much studying over the years I strongly feel that there is no positive element at all in keeping these animals like this, It only benefits human entertainment, human needs.
