@tootiredtocare1 Sorry if I offended you, but why is it British music shows like "Top Of The Pops" and others always seem to be hosted by men with high pitched voices who seem to suffer from social awkwardness?
Great Rick Wright tribute! Gilmour and Wright'a voices have always sounded eerily similar. Yea, Jules Holland is a twit, but for some reason, every music show host I've ever scene from Great Britain has been exceedingly nerdy. Why is that?
@nugster1 If you can look past his loud talking and extravagent behaviour, you'll see he's actually quite a cool person. And he can play a beastly piano.
Jools holland should have broke rank with his producers and let the show run over and Let David play to his hearts content mabe he was prepard to do an entire concert what a treat that would have been'
Poor Jools you know he wanted to keep talking and not cut him short, but I think he should have said fuck it. You know every one there waited to listen to David.
Sometimes I wonder... Maybe destiny wanted Gilmour to carry on the musical spirit of the Floyd founders, like the youngester of the family carries the heritage of his family. First Syd, now Wright...
david has so beautifully remembered richard, just as he has done for syd . david is very close to god . thank you david, and may god bless you forever and ever.
Guy and Steve look like they have aged a lot since G'Dansk, and John looks really stressed out that Rick is gone. This group won't be the same. I miss you Rick, never got to see you live.
When looking at this footage i got the feeling that jools doesn't seem to realise who's sitting in front of him.
This man, David Gilmour is a true legend and as all members of Pink Floyd are..
You see David is sad about Rick passed away And jools doesn't pay much attention to it, sadly. He's doing this performance and Rick would have been there too.. how painfull is that. Got tears in my eyes really.. what is Pink Floyd without Rick?
I'm breathless... the guitar work, the vocals of the song, the drumming, how the whole thing is put together.... Just seamless. A beautiful and seamless song, greatly performed by everybody, and it overjoys me to see David Gilmour doing so god damn well onstage. He'll never really age.
It is sad and emotional to see Davids eyes go red while talking about Rick. He was a great man, Great Musician, and great friend for David. I will Personally Miss him untill i Pass away, he moves me in music. As in what i play, record and listen to.
What a man, Or what men. They are both iconic to me.
Rick was the part that held floyd songs together. Think of listening to Echoes without the amazing piano, or Shine On without his playing. Any of the floyd's songs would not be the same without rick, and he is missed greatly. David was very much professional by showing up for this gig, but he was obviously very sad at the passing of his dear friend, Mr. Wright. I personally tear up watching David and Rick sing Echoes at Pompeii.
My God, that was good. Always considered this song a masterpiece. One of Wright's master-strokes in this piece is the repeated piano chord jumping those two octaves - gives a stunning image of little children playing. The combination of that with the driving guitars and drums provides a psych-rock evocation of childhood as powerful as Syd's best work. In the context here, it had me in effing tears.
@CultureJudge Wright was always so self-effacing and played down his role in early Floyd, but it's obvious from this tune amongst others, that Wright was the unsung genius in Pink Floyd, and he was by far the true musician in the band...
i love how david put himself aside and turned it into a tribute to rick. im a huge fan of rick's and i love his work with the floyd. def a class act by david. he wasn't even on this track, syd did the slide guitar. and props to jools for bringing syd into it to with astronomy domine. awesome video.
The best song on Saucerful of Secrets, and definitely one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs. Great rendition. I hope he keeps it has part of his live set for awhile. You can tell Gilmour is really pained in this video though. It really is sad.
The best song on Saucerful of Secrets, and definitely one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs. Great rendition. I hope he keeps it has part of his live set for awhile. You can tell Gilmour is really pained in this video though.
Always one of many favourites of Rick's along with See Saw and Summer 68 ; what a unique band the Floyd were. All the boys are legends in their own way
The song was recorded for Piper- but not included. This version is not just Dave's tribute to Rick, but also to Syd and his unhinged lsdie guitar. I mean slide guitar.
Strange that they played a Syd-based clip in an interview with David Gilmour about Rick... Considering Rick wasn't even shown and Gilmour wasn't even in the band haha.
Interesting! Rick's contribution on "Saucerful" were a bit overlooked at the time. This is a nice version. Actually, Syd Barret played slide on the album version.
That's right. Do you know any track where they actually BOTH (gilmour and barrett) play together? or a live show? I've read that it wasn't always great but I really want to hear how it sounds...
As a loving fan of Rick Wright and David Gilmour, having had Pink Floyd as a sound track to my youth and adulthood, and now being in middle age with them, grieve tremendously the loss of Rick. Watching David Gilmour's grief is almost unbearable.
i love David Gimour therefore have watched numerous live performances of his throughout the years and this one really hits an emotional note. The expression in his eyes when they do some of the close-up shows grief, and you know he's really feeling the song he's playing. It's a wonderful song and David performs it beautifully, doing justice to the musical talent of Richard Wright.
it felt the same as seeing them open in 94 w/ astronomy domine.....unbelievable...never thought i'd get to see these songs performed...in any form.....i was almost moved to tears when they opened with echoes in 87.......floyd and their members solo stuff has been the soundtrack to my life and its just moving as can be to see/hear this!!! drums are very masonish!!!
What an amazing tribute. I still cant get over that this was played..Gilmour handles it well and doesnt show too much flash sliding. Rick Wright was an important part of Pink Floyd and a lot of his songs are my faves like this, See-Saw and Paintbox.
i have to agree that hes a classy guy but the album he was promoting is a live album that featured solo and pink floyd stuff... not a new studio album...
Every time I watch this I can't help but see the pain even in Jon Carin's eyes as well. They all played that lat tour so well together. But DG I think did all he could to hold it together. Class act.
David Gilmour - ultimate gentleman and ultimate guitarist for phrase and melody without being flash.. Don't get me wrong -I love fast flash players - Holdsworth, Satriani, Vai, Petrucci, etc - BUT Gilmour only has to play one note to evoke emotion in me.......God bless 'im and god rest Rick Wright (from an atheist)...Hope they get together with Roger again....Roger is another story........affectionately speaking...
Wow....ive been a huge gilmour fan for a long time and have never seen him play slide guitar before....seen him on the pedal steel, but never the slide guitar...
I realize of that, but why 'til Wright's dead and had to be Gilmour and no one else? why the whole band didn't want to play once again?

And yes, I realize that Remember a Day was cut from Piper at the last minute, and has Syd on guitar (acoustic and slide). Since, as we know from Gilmour, STCFTHOTS is the only song that features all five members being recorded.
Actually, despite what a lot of people say, it looks like "Remember a Day" was recorded in October 1967, two months after "Piper..."'s release. I'm pretty sure it was attempted during the "Piper..." sessions, though.
Well, I would consider '68 visits to the BBC still pretty early in the bands history, and with Gilmour in the line up by then performing several tracks from SFOS which is still in the same vein as their stuff with Syd (I don't consider Saucer to be an album that features Syd in any serious way), as is all there stuff up to the Wall, since Rick Wright's keyboards make up a huge portion of Floyd's sound he doesn't get enough credit for.
Of all the video out there, they pull the BBC studio version of Astronomy Domine with Syd before Gilmour, classic carelessness that permeates the media today.
Waters who? Gilmore is and always was the leader of Pink Floyd. I think it is Jeff Beck in the background, he's sitting close I assume he's a vip/friend. Amazing guitarist's do associate.
im a big floyd fan grown up in 80s listining to there old and new songs that time and was so shocked to hear that rick died .i cant believe that the media didnt mention nothin in news or did any sort of tribute programme .. remember a day and i will always remember the days when i use to listen to there music and the joy i felt . rick u will always be rememberd RIP..
Jools Holland's voice is ANNOYING. Great performance by Dave Gilmour......RIP Rick Wright

One of my fav songs. This tribute is perfect.
But is so sad to know that it reveals 8 blue histories in 4:30 minutes:
1.- First Wright recorded composition.
2.- First Gilmour's song recorded playing with PF.
3.- PF never played in concerts.
4.- Wright couldn't perform it again.
5.- Gilmour's expression.
6.- Wright also compose in this song his own tribute in the final line "Reee-member".
7.- This song and this musician never had the honour they deserve.
8.- RIP Richard Wright.
