  • Brilliant, so laid back. Please have a listen to my very own cover version. Thank you, Steve.

  • He never had to push much effort into his singing, the man had a unique voice. It's likeable by anyone with a heart, especially myself as a person who's from a countryside and this is just the music that fits how I feel now.

  • This was played at my Grandfather's funeral. John H. Chisholm, who covered this song, as well as many other of JC's songs. RIP Grandpa, I'll never forget you!

  • Are you laughing at Johnny's voice on this particular song or at my honest comment? As I said, I'm surprised that Johnny didn't do a better version on this one song. If I had not heard it myself, I would have thougt that Johnny would have (could have) done the best version of any of the sundry singers who recorded this song.

  • Porter's version is better. He actually sings all of the notes in the tune and recites the last verse. I was surprised that johnny didn't do a better job on this.

  • @rance47 lol

  • It's a voice nobody can match.. Sad, he is no more with us

  • This was the favorite song of the only girl who ever really loved me.

  • That's my man ( The One and Only ) Great Johnny Cash "The Man in Black" my Buddy ....Ray Rogers

  • I like this version best because it makes me actually feel like I'm in this guy's shoes.

  • @flybreath :) my daddy used to sing it to me when I was little. we'd go down and clean his shop up every sunday and he'd play his Johnny Cash records and sing this to me. :)

i miss the way he was when i was little. he just sits and bosses everyone around all day when he's home now.

  • nowhere as good as tom j sorry

  • @crmaiden He was good but I like Joan Baez version better . Elvis did a great job to but that takes nothing away from Johnny Cash..they are all LEGENDS.

  • Johnny Cash has a very passionate voice. I don't think I've ever heard a bad version of this song.

  • greystone chapel

  • johnny cash is the man !!!!!!

  • 멋집니다*^^*

  • I prefer the statler bros. version

  • @kobrajesusreturns if you like their version get away from this one and go listen to it..prick

  • @SnowmanthreeUther Did I hurt your feelings little snowboy? statler bros. version is better, I'm sorry, it just is. No offense to Mr. Cash because he would probably agree since they were his favorite group.

  • Perhaps it's just familiarity, but I do find Tom Jones' version better. This isn't bad, but Tom Jones' seems to have a better 'mourning' character that's well suited to this song.

  • @NilEinne if you like their version get away from this one and go listen to it..prick

  • @SnowmanthreeUther That's silly. The only way I can know which 1 I like is by actually listening to them. & having listened, there's no reason why I can't or shouldn't give my honest personal opinion of the song, that's one of the purposes of the comment feature.

More importantly perhaps, I do enjoy listening to diff things, even if I prefer something else. I don't spend all my life listening to 1 version of 1 song. Some ppl like different things, unlike u, I don't have a problem with that...

  • @NilEinne thats well spoken your absolutly right abbout that ;)

  • Doesn't get much better than that... Johnny and June were such an inspiration.

  • Dad Loves Johnny, Mom asked me not give him a copy of "live a t fulsom prism". She has lever 4 lung cancer geuess Dad will get a copy within about 9 months...

save your sympathy for someone who wants it.... Mom knows we love her...

  • fell my skin of chicken the very moment that I begin to listen this beutiful song, most of us had left home, and in a time of our lives, when we return, in our mind, recall every moment depicted here by johnny cash and this song.

  • johnny cash forever <3 greatest country singer ever

  • I guess there aint nothing like home cause the Grass is always greener at home but nothing like home on the other side. God Bless my mamma

  • Johney cash was a

    good man ! i miss him :(

  • amen to that

  • Damn. It looks like the country, the place where i always wanted to born in.

    Thanks Johny. Pure poetry.

  • i like these swap overs from artists and songs i like. JC sings this in a much less passionate way but still nice to hear him sing this.

  • Less passionate?! That man's voice alone had more passion than, say, Mother Teresa ever did.

  • I know, nevertheless enjoy anything by JC, hmm dunno how to compere it with say Tom Jones's version. Baffling to describe.

  • Another great version of that beautiful song. Who has sung the original? Egelbert, am I right? Elvis and the Tiger Tom Jones had recorded also very good versions.

  • Down the lane i walked with my sweet Mary .Hair of gold and lips like cherris..

God its reminding me just some good times

  • yes you are right it was written by Porter Wagoner, As I remember him when i was a kid singing it, Thanks for posting it:Jim

  • Curly Putnam wrote it.

  • who wrote this song cause i know johnny's recorded it and tom jones has well (: but johnny made every song his own perfectly (: r . i . p x

  • i believe it was originally by a folk singer-porter wagoner, look him he's grand. hope this helps

  • Johnny Cash great man r.i.p

  • :-D

  • aww thats beautiful.

  • "hair of gold and lips like cherries" i dunno why but that makes this song for me!

  • merle and porter do the best versions! but I love anything johnny sings!!

  • merle haggard and porter wagoner have the best versions, although I dig johnny's version and everything he does

  • This song if of Johnny Cash at Folsum Prison. I'm not sure if it's on Sunday Morning Coming Down, but I know this version is off of Folsum Prison. Great song none the less

  • I'm with you. The album is Live from Folsom

  • pas mal mais je retourne écouter la version d'Elvis

  • i really prefer jonny's version

  • @StayGoldHC i prefer the Tom Jones version more the the Johnny Cash version cus Johnny Cash is 1 of my LESS favorite singers i even like Justin Bieber more then Johnny Cash XD and yes i mean that

  • i relly like this song it bring me back

  • Tom Jones can really sing this!!! :)

  • Thanks for sharing this song. It's a Classic. First song I learned on the guitar. Real easy chords. I myself thought Johhn did a great job. Not one of his best, but perhaps when he was recording he was going through a rough time. Like Divorce, or using. His heart wasn't in this one. But he sure makes up for it in others. We all have our days..RIP J.Cash!

  • welsh, Tom Jones? I take it you are one of the lucky few to catch a sweat saturated hanky while being part of the rather raucous live studio audience...ohh how dreamy. Listen to Johnny Cash's Live at Folsom and you get a better understanding of this song.

  • I love Johnny Cash but he doesnt pull off this song........Tom Jones still the boy for this song

  • Johnny Cash is one of the greatest people to ever walk the earth, no one can ever come close to Johnny Cash!

  • I remember this LP with the picture reversed...What a f... error!

Pour mes semblables qui ne connaissent pas bien Monsieur CASH:sa photo est à l'envers.

Je me demande bien ce qu'il en pensait...

  • Damn! how I love this man???

  • badass!!!!!!

  • I prefer the Tom Jones version

  • could johnny cash be possibly referring to Hinamizawa?

  • Yeah this is from The Folsom Prison concert but regardless it's a very great version of this song. I love it

  • It's originally from the Folsom Prison concert album/cd. Not a bad version.
