How is it psychological? When does it deal with the characters' psyches? I like Higurashi as much as the next person, so I'm not trying to slam it, but I've never considered it psychological.

No, I haven't. But maybe the games are different. I've been speaking for the anime, and I haven't really seen anything psychological about it.

I'm... not really sure how to explain it, other than what I said earlier. Its just not something that I ever thought fell into that category. When I think of psychological, I think of Paranoia Agent and Ergo Proxy. Higurashi never struck me as psychological. The reason behind most of the character's impulsive violence and change of behavior in Higurashi was because of Oyashiro-sama's curse, if I remember right. There's nothing very psychological about that.

Actually, Hinamizawa Syndrome..And problems with the characters, and their own personalities. There's always a deeper reason to the violence then "They just decided to.."

Higurashi isn't really psychological... Horror and mystery yes, but there's not much more to it than "everybody goes crazy and kills everybody else."

No, it's psychological. "Everybody goes crazy and kills everybody else"? If it's only about that, I'll read it only for entertainment and then throw it aside. What I liked about higurashi was that it seems to be full of violence, paranoia and distrust, but is ultimately a beautiful story about friendship, forgiveness and atonement.

What's psychological about it? The cast is "psycho", sure, but it doesn't deal with the characters' psyches, per say. There's no deep philosophy to it.

I do agree with how you described it in that last sentence though, and a lot of people do overlook the part of the series that centers around atonement.
