this scene scared the crap out of me. When I realised that her real daughter was left in her home, I was like "Oh f*ck" and when they were going to show the face of the ghostgirl, I was under the blancet. Maybe it was just me :P but this was a scary ending, but touching at the same time. good movie.
I'm sure that in Koji Suzuki's Dark Water book, the story entitled 'Floating Water', both mother and daughter escape safely in a taxi for a hotel, a relatively happy ending compared to the films. I think it's a shame they deviated from the book's ending but perhaps they thought it made for a better movie. But then that's just my opinion :)
You're absolutely right. And you know the even sadder part? She's happier, she accompanied, but now Ikuko is sad and abandoned and her mother is also sad. She doesn't even care.
@barthanson Mitsuko is a bigger bitch!!! She CHOOSES to hurt poor Ikuko and she stealed her mother!!! This horrible evil ghost deserved to be alone forever!!!
Mitsuko's ghost had no choice. In Japanese folklore Mitsuko is a yurei, a spirit trapped in the mortal realm by a strong emotional need. In Mitsuko's case the love of a loving mother since Mitsuko's true mother abandoned her a short time before Mitsuko's death
@jodelleferlandfan1 ...in Japanese folklore when a Spirit becomes a Yurei, it's strongest emotion or desire can bind them to the mortal realm preventing the ghost from passing into the lands of the dead. A Yurei no longer has freedom of choice. Until that desire is resolved or the proper rites are performed the Yurei's actions are governed by that dying desire or emotion. Yurei are not good or evil, those are mortal standards.
@jodelleferlandfan1 ..thank you for your reply. In French? Grand! I do hope the French sounded better than the American voices....lol. So then you know Mitsuko's background, how her mother abandoned her and the way Mitsuko died. That is how I know Mitsuko is a Yurei and not a Yokai, a Spirit Demon or Spirit Monster (they have freedom of choice). Only mortal Spirits might become Yurei, depending how their deaths occur.
it scared m shitless all the way up to maaa maa then i was like wtf really all that suspense for nothing!

@fucklub18 Well, you have to realize that the dead girl would probably have killed her daughter. It's a parental sacrifice type thing.

oka i have a question why dosent the mother yank that pysco off her, and whats with the water at the end?
karmandsparrowhawk 2 years ago
that psycho is the ghost Mitsuko so it can't be yanked off and the ghost has power over water as that is what killed Mitsuko over a year before.
