@ajfilms If you truly had the support of 99% people like Obama and other leftist would Occupy WITH you, not just "support" you, but from a distant. How many NDPs in Canada or left-wing leaders in the US occupied WITH you people? Even if republicans are wrong sometimes, notice how they campaign WITH their base (Tea Party) and are proud of them as oppose to the Leaders of the Left who are embarrassed to been seen in public with occupiers!
@brian0909090 So according to your backwards logic, a movement is only legitimate if only a literal majority of the population supports it? You do realize how thats a logical fallacy. There'd be no need for a movement if it was already widely accepted. Do you want to look back and see how much of the population supporting the abolition of slavery when it was first proposed? Or civil rights? Movements ALWAYS start with a small group of people and later everyone takes credit.
You also clearly don't understand what the movement is about, nor why its necessary. Its incredibly sad how uneducated some people are. There's a link in the description that you may want to read, but you'll probably still try to find reasons to tell yourself you're right. If you don't see a problem with the over-corporatization of government and the gap between the rich/poor widening at record speeds, then, well, please understand that one day soon, you'll be laughed at in history books.
It's incredibly comforting to see ignorant people such as yourself get so riled up over this. Historically, it's always the first sign that you're doing something right. Brainless sheep furiously defending the status quo. Ignorance is bliss, though, right?
@ajfilms Further to that, yes, the media carries your silly cries of entitlement, but only because it's their JOB. I know that therm is a foreign concept to occupiers, but it simply means a duty carried out to EARN a living - still confusing for you huh? Give it time. Also, check out the comments section of those stories - CBC, CTV and hell even the digital leftist tabloid Huffington Post - you find many folks who hold leftist views wishing you people would just go away! You people are a joke!
@ajfilms Yes, sadly there are tens of thousands in the rag tag mob but you seem to forget, this planet has 7 BILLION people! Even IF you people had a global total of a very over generous estimated 5 million people protesting and supporting combined, that's still only 0.07% of the world's population so cut your "whole world" bullshit! As stated before, regardless of your over-zealous since of importance you are the 0.07 percent, haha, you don't even make it to 1%!
@ajfilms NO, it's you and your occupiers with your self-inflated egos and over-zealous sense of importance that live in the bubble! The "whole world" is NOT watching and the majority of us who work could care less about a few lazy bums in various cities around the world who refuse to get a job and be productive members of society. I run a small business and create jobs - how many jobs have you created for your fellow "occupiers" ? None most likely.
@brian0909090 Yelling your opinion louder than other peoples doesn't make it fact. Have you not watched the news and seen the tens of thousands of people marching in cities around the world? Or do you watch FOX news? What I'm stating is not opinion - I can prove it. Right now - go to google news. Search "occupy". Every half decent newspaper in the fucking world has ran at least 5 stories each on the issue. Nothing you ever do in your life will be a fraction as noteworthy as this movement.
Just so everyone knows, this user is now blocked, because I'm not down to get into the same stupid conversation I've already been through a thousand times. Check past comments/replies if you want to see how it always goes. @mothafuckinsmok3 do you live in in a bubble? go google just the word "occupy" on google news. That's what it accomplished. The entire fucking world is suddenly having conversations, from both sides, on economic disparity. There was what was probably the largest, most coordinated worldwide movement ever. European leaders and even Bill Gates are suddenly pushing for the Robin Hood Tax. Millionaires descended on congress asking to have their taxes increased. It got the whole worlds attention.
@mothafuckinsmok3 That's a HELL of a lot if you take the time to understand that this was just the first step of a long, arduous movement. Nothing big comes easy, and if you judge a movements success by whether it changed the world in 60 days, you're a short-sighted fool. The ripples from the Occupy movement are going to be felt for a long, long time and a lot more is going to come from this in the next few years.
@Winnetka4 are you KIDDING me?! Does NO ONE on youtube know how to make a rational argument? For the millionth time, anecdotal evidence is NOT an argument. Just because you can find one person who did one thing, it doesn't mean ANYTHING for wider society. Not to mention you clearly dont understand the reasons for the movement. And i'm done explaining them to every clown with a youtube account. Please, please, please go educate yourself. Dissenting voices are fine if they're INFORMED.
@Winnetka4 oh, if you're intention was to say "he should be supporting the movement because public housing helped him", then I misunderstood and apologize. all these e-haters have me on edge with their ignorance.
My parents came to this great country with the clothe on their back and 200 Canadian$. They worked there asses off in minimal wage jobs and went to school to learn English and French. On top of that, my brother and I were 2 and 7 years old. They now own a house, two cars and I am about to buy my first house at the age of 25. We never cheated the system or took advantage of it. We lost some and won some but never stopped and gave up to blame someone else. These idiots need to grow a pair
@mosquitoman006 you have just demonstrated a fundamental lack of understanding of how society and the economy works. Anecdotal evidence is misleading and totally unhelpful - YOUR particular family story has nothing to do with those who have been cheated, taken advantage of and screwed by those in power. Do you really extrapolate everything that happens to you as a universal fact? It's the single most empty tactic when it comes to having meaningful discussions.
@ajfilms I am not denying that there is a problem with the economy (has there ever not been) but I just would like you to explain to me how and why some people who started with nothing end up well and other not so well. What is the determining factor? You may see this protest and see something beautiful. I see this and see a bunch of immature sheep (not all) blindly following the "Nonconformists" movement. At the end of the day, they will return home, consume from Wal-Mart ...
and work for The Man. Seems to me like they are angry they didn't get a piece of the pie. They think society owes them a job or a better life style. Nothing is free, everything in life is earned. And if for a second they would stop to consider that on a global scale, THEY are the so called 1%. At least they will have some nice videos and pictures on there 400$ Iphone and 2000$ macbooks with this circus ends. I would be very curious how many of these clowns voted on the latest elections!
@mosquitoman006 There are so many fallacies in your response that I think I may have to number them, starting with the most irrational.
1- Again, just because YOUR family had success, you can't make that a universal claim. Mine did too, but that doesn't mean I'm turning my back on these people. That's the exact same thing as Tom Cruise saying "well, I worked really hard and no one gave me any breaks, so any actors who aren't rich and famous are lazy whiners".
2- You don't deny there's a problem with the economy.. and you point out there always has been one. Well, do you have any idea why things have gotten better since, say, 200 years ago? Because of people like the ones in this video who don't sit around on youtube and put everyone down. They're the DOERS in society - and that's why I find it so funny when you call them sheep - They are 500 people out there, in a city of 3 million. Who do you really think are the sheep in that equation?
3- You bringing voting into this is inane. First of all, if anyone is the type to vote, I guarantee you all these people are. The activist crowd obviously votes. But, if you haven't noticed that Canada's electoral system is broken, your head is in the clouds. Waiting for the right politician to get elected to fix things is naive.
Throughout history, during every social movement, there are people like you who, for some crazy reason, furiously defend the status quo. Whether it be civil rights, women's rights, or anything else - the majority that you currently find yourself in always try to fight to put people down at first. But you know what, you are on the wrong side of history buddy. Wake up.
Also, please click the link next to "More Info" in the video description that I just added. Maybe it'll clarify some things for you about why your family's success doesn't mean the system isnt corrupt and oppressive.
@ajfilms But this is not a case about a skill like acting. We are talking about an attitude toward life's problems. Again, I am the first to admit that the system is not perfect, but I do not think that our problems are going to get any better by camping in a park and smoking pot all day and dancing to tam-tam.
You want real changes, then go and vote for your political party, or better yet, become someone, educate yourselves and lead by example.
@mosquitoman006 Have you even been down there? Do you know for a fact that they are just sitting around smoking pot? Because if you had bothered to educate yourself before criticizing, you'd realize that the movement does value education and in fact, theyve set up a free library and give daily classes educating people on the economic situation, on top of hosting debates and discussions on ideas for a better future.
These people are slowly but surely making waves - ALL historical movements are slow and messy - but the Robin Hood Tax proposal that came out of this is already gaining traction - with many European politicians and even Bill Gates vocally supporting it.
And you missed the Tom Cruise analogy entirely. If you really think he is where he is in life because he has more skill than everyone else who isn't famous, then you really live in a naive world. Go to any independent theatre performance or film festival and you'll quickly see hundreds of more talented actors. Which is exactly my point - there are SO many variables that its absolutely ridiculous to reduce your family's success to simply hard work, just like you can't reduce his to skill either.
Stop occupying.. we're so numerous that we can go in their fucking mansions and fuck their shit up on the spot. pardon my french. We need to get these rich fuckers and strip them down.
please watch a movie called (oh canada our country bought and sold) if you want to understand the banking fraud that is in the process of enslaving us.it is available on you tube, please forward to everyone you know
@TeenageIronman congratulations on the fantastically eloquent comment! the internet could use more people as supremely educated as yourself! Thank you kindly for taking the time to share your wisdom.
@ImRichYouMad How can you put life, liberty and property in the same box is beyond me. Property is stealing! Ripping off life AND other people's liberties. Just looks at how the land is safekept and divided... just for a totally abstract idea of property that legitimates things like foreclosures and expropriations from the top. You own nothing, there is no contract with Nature, anywhere, to prove it. But you are own BY Nature. You come from it and you'll go back to it.
@averysdescent do you seriously think that's a clever argument, or are you just being a troll? There is a huge difference between a world without corporations and a world where corporations don't dictate government policy. The point isn't to rid the world of corporations, it's to inject a little bit of ethics into the system.
@ajfilms LOL, a troll? Alright there Charlie Sheen! Dude, north america was "founded" with lies, theft and killing...how do you fix a "system" that has been fucked from day one?
@averysdescent you've never heard of the term internet troll before? lol. And, to answer your question, you definitely don't fix it by sitting around on youtube and discouraging people who are trying to fix things. Sure, there's no easy way- maybe no way at all - it doesn't mean we should shut up as our society gets ravaged. The protesters never said they have an answer to everything. They're just expressing themselves the only way they feel they can right now. There's no honor in knocking that.
@ajfilms No, all the power to them for trying at least. I just find a lot of people there are very contradictory to what the vision is and I believe there are other ways to be effective to just sit around in tents, smoking weed and holding up a cardboard sign. Agree? Disagree? Or agree to disagree?
@averysdescent If you've seriously got ideas then I think it's not only myself who'd love to hear them, but all the people participating in the Occupy protests worldwide. As far as I can tell from the Montreal one, they're very much seeking ideas on how to be more effective. The thing is, these are the only people so far who have actually stood up to take a stand, and action - even if imperfect - speaks louder than words.
@ajfilms no dude they are not capable of playing by the rules, nor will they accept in re-regulation or taxation the republicans are very clear on that and Obama is their bitch. We will take them down by boycotting and shorting their stock. It ended apartied in South Africa, got to hit them in the pocket and hard. B of A's stock to $6 and some change this week. No more bailouts, they must be allowed to fail. Who ever is left standing will have to accept the regulations that in place 1950.
@averysdescent No, it's the workers who did all this shit, they always did.
Corporations are mere bureaucratic fantasies, purely conceptual entities aimed at once again ripping-off the people from their land, resources and the products of their work.
@averysdescent no we don't need them. mom and pops sell the same shit. or buy used. Iphones and other gadgets that you want. Just cause we buy their crap doesn't mean we should be their slave/ATM card.
@Zuroq i actually agree.. its unfortunate that some people with less than reasonable beliefs are hijacking some aspects of the movement. but the way I've been dealing with the wide range of political beliefs is by noting that everyone there is hoping for the same thing, even if they have different ideas of how to get there.
The fact that some people do or don't have debt from school isn't the point. Obviously there are a million variables that can account for this. I just graduated from uni. and am lucky enough to be in a really good situation financially. But that doesn't mean I turn my back on people who aren't, or call them lazy. The issue here is that there is a complete lack of ethics in business today. People making 2 mil. will gladly harm society/environment/etc if it means they can make 4 mil.
guys - calm down. Ignorant comments like BigPigs' just means that your effort is paying off. Change is always resisted by the majority, who in retrospect embrace it like it was their doing to being with. Thanks for the progress report, BigaPigs!
@BigaPigs your a dick who knows nothing i was there for two nights now dipshit and this is something great, people have jobs and such and leave them behind for a better cause while you talk shit about them on the internet you fucking sheep, theres love and alot of it
@BigaPigs You're quite ignorant. I'm a McGill student...Canadian citizen...and in my second year I already owe the government $24 000 in student loans. We're not all bums you idiot.
@andyx1205 im a mcgill student, from montreal. in my second year and owe the goverment $0 in student loans. youre a bum if you choose to be. stop feeling sorry for yourself.
I know a guy who grew up in Ville-Émard (a very poor neighbourhood) and worked as a clerk at an IGA store while doing his engineering degree. When he graduated he went to work for the Imperial Oil refinery in Montreal and later became its director. He then became the lobbiest for Imperial Oil in Ottawa.
Granted, he did graduate in the 70s when there were more jobs than today. Nevertheless, he never owed any money.

Remember that throughout history following every revolution, the 1% have eventually been replaced by a new 1%.

Occupy whatever you want. Just stay off my PRIVATE PROPERTY.

I guess these bums have no job? So they walk around to protest what exactly? Those who support them?

@BigaPigs You're quite ignorant. I'm a McGill student...Canadian citizen...and in my second year I already owe the government $24 000 in student loans. We're not all bums you idiot.

@andyx1205 im a mcgill student, from montreal. in my second year and owe the goverment $0 in student loans. youre a bum if you choose to be. stop feeling sorry for yourself.
LTACS 4 months ago
@andyx1205 why don't you work while you study?
I know a guy who grew up in Ville-Émard (a very poor neighbourhood) and worked as a clerk at an IGA store while doing his engineering degree. When he graduated he went to work for the Imperial Oil refinery in Montreal and later became its director. He then became the lobbiest for Imperial Oil in Ottawa.
Granted, he did graduate in the 70s when there were more jobs than today. Nevertheless, he never owed any money.
