yeh we know that swimmers arent at their best now but winning is what they want to do no matter what, its not always all about the olympics and world camps, you dont have to save up your emotions for two or four years.. soccer players celebrate after every goal ten times more than he did, not just when they win a game or championship.

ok: one- hayden is not a front half hundred swimmer. he's said himself that his 200 is much better than his 50. Due to his lack of a world-class start. He also might have won a medal if he had swum the final in beijing. And don't count out the quality of the field Hayden was racing against. I'm sure if he had come 2nd and still beaten phelps he wouldn't have 'fist pumped'. Nathan adrien is another big name, and the other swimmers weren't half bad.

This is great that Brent won in this event but realistically, this is not a good gauge to see who is the fastest. Most swimmers are not in good shape like at the Olympics or World Champs. Just because he beat Phelps here doesn't mean he can do it at the Olympics. Canadians need to get over their 'anti-America' persona! It's getting old. Just congradulate Brent on a great swim but don't bash Phelps! In 2012, where will Canada be? Dead last! USA and Aussies rule the pool!

WOW those commentators are idiots. He went under 49 sec. in the 100 free which is a feat, and entitles him to some excitement and fist pumping, and even though it wasn't a big event he still beat P-Diddy, and that also gives warrant to a couple fist pumps. Good to see enthusiasm in sport.

Swimming is not football, not all swimmers peak at every meet. They all have their own training programs.  For elite swimmers the real thing is at he olympics and the world championships, we will see what happens in Rome in August.

Hayden said he was so pumped because of his time. He was happy to swim that kind of time mid season. Phelps later said he was pleased as well, going under 49 after 3 weeks of altitude training. In a short while all these guys will be competing on the international level, tapered, and we'll see where everyone really is at.

Did Rowdy Gaines (the announcer for those who don't know who he is) get hit in the neck with a tranquilizer dart at the end of the race?
