@TheFriedolays Yet here you are watching it :-p. Do you liking that closet you're so obviously inhabiting? First of all, dancers require greater physical fitness than most athletes. Second of all, dancing is far less gay than-say-football (rugby, soccer or Gridiron), what with all its tight uniforms and guy-on-guy action-not to mention the shared shower room afterwards ;-).
I like the choreography for the stage version more than the movie version, though I've only seen the revival and I'm not sure if the original is anywhere near similar.
I love this musical! Stage version is def. better than the movie. As a theatre practitioner the stage version hits closer to home. "What I did for Love" is about the art and in the movie that was missed. And the stage choreography for "I hope I get it" is much more difficult than the movie version. I had to learn them for dance class. It was more difficult than "Cats"!
The glaring, obvious omissions in the film 'Every Little Step' are not only indicative of a much more UNSAVORY story, but barely scratch the surface of what occurred in the world of the original 'A Chorus Line.' NEVER in the history of New York Theatre had a cast of hard working, loyal and passionate artists ever been SO screwed over psychologically, monetarily & emotionally, than by exec producer John Breglio, Michael Bennett, and their other now deceased co-horts. Absolutely reprehensible!
I like the movie choreography of the opening as much as I like the stage choreography by Michael Bennett. However, I prefer the choreography of "One" better on stage than in the movie.
My dance class is learning this as an opener to our show. Its amazingly hard at first but its so fun to dance to once you get the hang of it. (my favorite movie.....by the way)
i luvvv the part when there all rising up with there arms in the shape of like a bird......lol anywhoo... and all there heads come up at like the same exate time....i luv it its intense
There is also a song with this beat, and a man keeps saying all the time what you have to do, so not just in the beginning. Does anyone know the name?
i just saw this on broadway and it was amazing theres nothing better than live theatre but when it comes to a version of thefilm or theatre theatre every time!!!
Dontcha just love how he's got a hundred people on stage dancing all at the same time and he's sitting way in the back of the theater. That Zach is such a brilliant choreographer, he can tell which dancers are the best. Even the one he can't see because they're standing behind ten other people.
This movie changed my life. I began dreaming the day I saw this movie. I was about 8 years old when I realized that I will have obstacles and challenges in life, but if I believe, truly believe, "I will get it".
Ugh, who told them to relinquish the sparkling original choreography in favor of this fugly mess? And turn the jazz break into a schmoozy 80s electronica garble?
I really like this movie and have seen it several times. It's a shame this film was not accepted on its own merits, which I think were considerable: An absorbing & well-acted story with good singing & terrific dancing. Unfortunately, big screen adaptations of stage musicals rarely make the transition unscathed. Maybe the purists might have been better served if the creators of "A Chorus Line" had just filmed the stage show.
Exactly. Well said, "...not accepted on its OWN merits." That was a great cast who were only doing what they were asked and they did an awesome job at it too. The cast is strong, the talent is there. I think the problem lies in changing the meaning of "What I Did For Love." "Love" was suppose to represent the love of dance--not between two people kinda love. That's where it really crossed the line. Lesson learned; don't re-interpret a Pulitzer-Prize winning piece of musical history.
I'm sorry I don't know where to find the film on the internet.
Funny it wasn't shown on this crap on tv, "Movies Rock." Don't mean to sound bitter. But come on*%#@ This is crap! Did you see the "Diamonds" or "Big Spender" numbers? It was "BIG" alright and in a red dress too. Best thing was Underwood's "Sound of Music" rendition.
Anyway, luck with your hunt. If you get a chance the Browadway show of A Chorus Line is worth seeing.
I've just been introduced to jazz in school and my dance teacher Ms. W showed us some of the movie along with Chicago && Cats... Soo love Chorus line and chicago...
great movie ! i like it :). I'm looking for the two alyson reed's songs ('let me dance for you' & 'what i did for love'). If you have these songs, could you post, please ? :) thanks a lot =)
i think i just puked...i'm in a chorus line in the first production in a college in the chicago land area and we are doing straight original broadway choreography...that was probably the worst thing i have ever seen...wow they really screwed that up big time...
You guys were right that is horribly awful! Nail on the head with the more like flashdance comparison. Travesty for any die hard a Chorus Line fan but would be amusing for the 80's kitschy set.
They completely 80s-ized A Chorus Line, when it's a completely 70s show. AND IT BELONGS THAT WAY. THAT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT WAY. Gah. What the hell, Michael Douglas and Terrence Mann, how could you be involved in such a bad movie?
I like the production number and the other numbers in the film, it must be hard to efficiently scout talent when so many folks want to be seen in a limited timeframe.
Talk about screwing everything up! What the hell is up with the music? And why is the choreography bastardized? That is one of the worst things I've ever seen.
Wow. I don't mean any disrespect to Richard Attenborough, but he has downright MAULED everything that made A Chorus Line excellent. And Michael Douglas just DOESN'T work as Zach.
I saw the production at the Shubert Theater weeks before it closed. I preferd the movie version better.
