Are you kidding me? A terrible live band? And when did you see them actually play live? A youtube video, a copy of a copy of a copy simply does not give a true impression. They ROCK live.

There are some songs that just should not be covered, and this is one of them. You either try to copy TP's version and come up very short, or try and make it your own, and come up short.
i agree that some songs should be covered, but i don't think this song is one of them. the goo goo dolls did a great job on this, johnny's voice is amazing, the instruments are played well. if you want to look at shit covers, look at keatings version of iris. now THAT is a song that should not be covered.

This is from the CBS telecast of the concert to um, bring up the hopes of new yorkers because of Sept. 11th. You can tell because Greg and Jason are still backup musicians instead of Brad and the other guy (his name is too hard to spell) and he's playing a strat instead of a LP or ES model. And yes they have started closing with this.
john would never lipsynk, no matter what! hes so not like that! hes too honest to lipsync and even if he did youd catch him doin it like the first line, cuz when he performs live you can tell if hes really singing, cant beleive some people, dont judge john! gosh.

In the weeks leading up to the anniversary of 9/11/01, there was a debate about whether shows and concerts should be scheduled for that day. Leno chose to air a new show and asked the Goos to perform this song on very short notice.
This performance was some time before Let Love In because John is still playing a Fender. For LLI he started playing Gibsons. My guess is that it's sometime after the Gutterflower tour and before LLI.
