  • Sounds a lot like the Irish folk ballads. Guess it's probably ooted in Celtic ancestry.

  • i miss my pop.............

  • this is very emotion invoking. i cant put my finger on why. form Occupied Virginia

  • this is true bluegrass it makes you feel an emotion unique to this song and carries you to a place that your mind never thought to look...

  • @brittineelea : Actually this wouldn't be considered bluegrass (which is rooted in Euro-American "old time" music as well as Afro-American jazz, but wasn't popular until the mid-1900s). This song is a hymn and can be found in the Sacred Harp, a collection of shape note songs. Shape note is a form of cappella gospel music well over 200 years old. Tim Eriksen, the vocalist here, has done extensive work and research into American folk music, especially shape note. I

  • i wish i still played the violin

  • So i was in austrailia for seven months and this is basically what called me home.......it makes my blood stir.....haunting and moving......calling and sacred........sad yet rejoiceful.....i hope i spelled that right youtubers are such....

  • Beautiful

  • it's a legitimate question.

  • What is the name of the song when they're battling in the Crater?

  • @generaltodd2 Idumea, which is also posted.

  • im reaching cold mountain before you

  • @oldstylelife ......you heard 'im. :)

  • this is such an amazing song, i´ve cried when i heard it first time.

please, are there some similar song to this, or similar to all soundtrack from Cold Mountain.

  • Chills

  • I live in appalachia, and this environment still exists. I don't know about the rest of the south, but its still here.

  • if the south is dixie. is the north considered mason?

    ask your self.

    from:

    an Irish confederate american.

does'nt that sound as stupid as....

    african american.

you've never been to africa i've never been to ireland.

  • @dee71587 what relevance does this question have to the song.

  • I'm homesick.

  • i wonder if the south is even they way most people imagine it any more.

i know texas isnt i lived here for years dont know anyone with a southern accent

(its because douche rs from California moved here )

  • @ZackAttack261 YES...The SOUTH lives! First your in a place that never really was "Dixie", part of the states yes but thats about it. Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia,The Carolinas and most of Kentucky and lower Virginia...Thats the real DIXIE ! and ain't nobody lost their accent here....God Bless the SOUTH!!

  • @KampfGruppeLatham Id have to argue that.

There isnt a southern state that is pure southern. In fact most southern states are so heavily colonized by outsiders mostly northerners in search of jobs. The Virginias, the Carolinas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida all hit very hard. Id say the only state that is truely southern through and through to this day is Mississippi.

Id say Dixie is the formor Confederate states and the deep south is what are refering to.

  • Respond to this video... REALLY sorry to hear that bro........We keep em at bay round here !!!

  • @ZackAttack261 you're right in the west and south texas influence of westerners and spanish language but go to the piney woods of east texas and it's suuthurn ;)

  • @carringtonc79 Most of North Texas is southern aswell lived here most my life with the exception of Tennessee for a few years. Outside the citys north Texas is throughly southern.

  • sing amazing grace along with this.... the meter *almost fits, but its lovely.

  • I love how a song made of just fiddle and voice can be better than anything you find in a hollywood studio.

  • I love how Tim Eriksen is a punk guy and dresses in black and what not. And then he opens his mouth and sings this. Amazing.

  • @TheGhilgamesh | not really, being urbanised and subcultural is just a variation on a theme, not at all amazing in fact.

  • sad but pretty song

  • Nagy Szar

  • The music in this song is so beautiful it hurts.

Definately have chills when I listen to it.

  • Pardon, it was based off a HYMN, not a poem.

  • This song's based on a poem by Charles Wesley, younger brother John Wesley, the man who founded (or perhaps co-founded) the Methodist denomination. It's only the first stanza and a half, though.

  • This song is sooo beautiful and it makes chills run down my spine.

  • This bit was eally sad hey played this when that boy was dying

  • The best movie with the best soundtrack <3

  • i just noticed that this song is a slowed down version of the song Idumea

  • what are some other good songs that are close to the violin tune of this song?

  • we all owe GOD a death.AMEN.

  • Tim Eriksen! This man has a voice!

  • this song reminds me of times...when i am so thirsty...and i run down to bishops creek...and the waters so cold......or like........like a girls waiting for me back home.............

  • Stobrod Thewes played this song for the dying kid, but it was just the first couple of measures on violin, there was no singing.

  • He played for the young kid that was dying after the explosion. He asked for a song that reminded him of cold mountain. Very beautiful song:)

  • I don't remember this song from the movie, but it's been a while since I've seen it. Can anyone tell me what part of the movie it was in?

  • Was in the battle scene of the Crater at Petersburg, when the young boy is in a hospital tent dieing. A friend from back home of Inman is asking on his dying breath, to hear a song to remind him of home before he dies. This is when Stobrod gets out his fiddle and plays for him; but, in the movie he doesn't sing, only plays . The young soldier is thinking of home Cold Mountain...and dies. He's the guy at the church scene outside who yell's, like a Rebel Yell ..." We've Got Our War"!

  • Thanks to all those who replied :)

Love this song. This movie has a great soundtrack.

  • "Sing me something Sweet..." "Like the cool water from the stream" "I dont know anything like that" "I only know a couple of tunes" Fantastic movie.... You were so lucky to be a part of that movie as a extra..
