You betcha! He's doing Don Jose here this weekend. He's doing B cast because, as I understand it, he was bored and available and they needed another Don Jose. He does a really creepy, unhinged Don Jose, and the creepier he gets, the sweeter his tone gets.
Who's the baritone? He sounds like a young Thomas Hampson.
I went to high school with Raul Melo in Miami... had a feeling he would someday be famous for his voice.. it was wonderful even back then.

Fantastic! heard Raul Melo on radio this afternoon Dec 7 08 Lake Wobegon.
And I now see this terrific video I will pass it on to my many Opera friends.

Do not know much about the baritone except
that he sings at the NYC Opera.

It is the tenor that sings at the NYC opera, the baritone sings mainly in the European houses.

roster will be more then just a standby

Yes it's a great baritone and very popular in Germany. It's really a great honour to see him on stage.
