I worked at GE Wind Energy in the manufacturing plant in Tehachapi, CA from 2003-2005.. we built in 1 year 598 1.5Mw WTG... pretty sure that the record still stands... Wind turbines have been built in America for years... The plant was owned originally by Zond, then bought out by the now infamous Enron, and then picked up by GE Power Systems... Most of the turbine assembly is done in Pensacola, FL. but the controllers are still assembled in Tehachapi, CA... a million dollars a piece..

@5554283 Does the turbine has difference gears to shift when it speeds up? How fast does the wind has to be to at least propel the turbine, at least for the one in this video? In laid-men's term, how many homes or residential blocks does one turbine can power in full throttle? How costly, labor intensive, & eco-friendly do wind power maintenance compare to other forms of power? I am sorry, I am not very technical. I hope you can answer and understand my questions.
