  • As a kid in '66, I thought this way cool. But a very deep and strange thing for an aussie pop band to come out with. Well it's just dawned on me that it's straight from of a US deep south prison work song. Now it all fits into place. See 'Prison Songs - Early In The Mornin'

(search on title - can't get link to copy) I still like the Hearts version, but the original is an absolute bone chillin' revelation.

  • Mad song but wtf are the lyrics? All I hear is "It was a dirty dirty dirty dirty lie" and a sweet jelly roll

  • @FairlaneNL As I think it was based on the Graham Bond Organization Version then perhaps this may help. there is a version with lyrics on youtube but I cant seem to post the link

  • i really "dig" the "groovy" pants that they wore!!!

and the way the singer moves, OWWWW!!! he really turns me on........

    far out..........

  • @flowerbellbottoms Haha same here. He is very entertaining!!!

  • thanks for posting, brings back a lot of great memories dancing to them at the DB in Brisbane

  • Mick Hadley and the band were absolute standouts in the mid 60's, great memories, thanks for the post.

  • brings back all the memories of Melbourne in the mid-sixties - oh to have those times back!!!!

  • any aussie who knows his music knows this band very very influential.

  • First time I've heard this song, it's great, love it.

  • wow, great tune and video!! this is really cool, and i hadn't heard of the purple hearts before! and nice job with the band history! 5/5 thanks for this upload!!
