We admire someone because he had the balls to give up everything he knew so he could learn what life is truly about, and not just believe the lies that you are spoon fed every day by society. He lived and enjoyed his life. He would have felt living allowing materialism and society dictate his life would be suicide.

I think the fact that he was wealthy didnt make him act pompous or snobby, etc like it would for most ppl.; the fact that he was wealthy made him detest monetary wealth b/c his parents were changed for the worse b/c of money. But of course chris didn't "play his cards" right and obviously he misperceived and was ill-prepared for Alaska. His sense of adventure and his need to run away from his problems blinded him from reality
