Absolutely, i'm a professional software developer, and I use Solaris/Unix, Mac OS X and WIndows machines and have developed on all 3 in commercial respect, and i'm really sorry to disappoint you but your previous comment underlines your ignorance. Under the hood Mac OS X is far more complex than windows vista. Saying that using a mac to do anything technical is the same as " trying to hack MI6 with a nintendo DS." is like calling ALL Unix/LInux environments this, as OS X is fully Unix compliant.
Worst operating system ever made, period. Windows ME was stunning compared to this crap.. It can't handle 8 USB-perephirals and an external soundcard without bluescreening several times a day.. They should be ashamed for even asking for money for this travesty, it's not worth the pain and frustration even if it's pirated.. I've been a PC user since I was 6 years old and Microsoft has hit rock bottom with this.. I've never been so determined to buy a Mac as I am now, it's that awful.

people dont realise that when XP first came out, it was exactly the same thing coz back then people couldve said "windows 98 performs better than XP" but it was only when they FINALLY released sp2 being when xp was finally usable. the EXACT same damn thing will happen with vista.

In my experience of the two Vista and XP, XP is better, and its faster, you should find a video of Vista starting up, and not on one these spoofed up 1k PCs, I am talking about the current market Vista-Ready PCs.
@windowshatersi prefer windows and i don't play games. i jsut like the general feel and i'm used to it. we all like different things though! i'm getting a new pc for christmas (2.4 GHZ quadcore processor, 4 GB DDR2 ram, 650GB hard drive) with vista built in. sp1 is released and i am just a home user and i'm sure it willbe a bit more improved by the time i get it so i'm sure to have an enjoyable experience. anyone agree?

No, Apple is based off of the Darwin Kernel which is based off of BSD which is based off of UNIX, and macs are very hackable. It is estimated that if Macintosh had equal market share with windows, the mac would have 80% more security holes than windows.

FantasticFour2132, is correct when he says the market is changing. The sales trends of the Mac prove that. They are outpacing the rest of the industry 3-1. They have made remarkable progress in the last few years. He does however overstate how far that will go. As long as Apple does not offer and compete in the low end market there will always be a rather large disparity!
To finish that thought, It is un-realistic to expect Apple to sell more machines than every other PC maker out there combined. As long as the PC makers selling machines at price points which Apple does not even compete for market share will always be a pointless statistic. Certainly does not prove which is better.
What one should do is look at the market where the DO compete for sales. Machines over $1,000. In that area you will see that Apple owns 66% of the market!

But the problem is that you can never compare you building your own computer with that of a name brand machine. No matter what it is, if you do it yourself it will be much cheaper. Imagine how much you could save if you could build your own car or house! The fact is that if you compare a similarly built Dell to the Mac Pro you will see the prices are on par. Take a look at the Gateway One prices vs the iMac. The Gateway One is MORE! They are totally on Par with other name brand PCs.

That is the point, they don't. As I said they are on par with other name brand PCs when they are built to the same specs. It is that way in just about everything in life. Why is Coca-Cola more expensive than a no name brand "cola"? Their cost of doing business is MUCH higher! Now the other thing is that Dell offers a much wider range of computers from the inexpensive to the very expensive. Apple does not.

Correct. It is not just an Apple approach either. Take a look at Alienware. All they make are beautifully designed high end machines and their reputation is very good. It is still a PC just like any other. Does that mean they are ripping people off? No, they just chose to make a high end, well built reliable product. Again this is not exclusive to the computer industry. Look at Toyota vs Kia! It is much the same. It is all where you choose to market your product.

That's partially true. But OS X is a very powerful unix system, which makes it much harder to really infect it, too. All viruses that were ever written for OS X had to be installed with your Administration Password. Anyone who installs unknown Software which he didn't download wilingly with his Masterpassword is a big security risk on his own already.
to me vista looks very decent. its actually not that bad to tell you the truth because i recommend the processor that has over 2 GHZ and at LEAST 1GIG of RAM.

Friends of mine have had major problems when using multimedia. I suspect people using pc's for audio or music production will all turn to mac sooner than later.
I found it frustrating to use. I would not endorse it for any serious gaming or multimedia work. It is not reverse compatible.
Again use it for Wordpad or solitare and it works fine.

I have upgraded from High speed to Ultra speed 4 months ago. I have a laptop and a desktop computer. I have absolutely no problem with my desktop computer which is loaded with XP while my Vista laptop it's a totally different story despite the ultra speed and upgrade of 2GB RAM. I have to wait for so long to open my mail or even to connect to the internet. Guess what. I prefer to use my desktop computer to make this comment rather than my Vista Laptop. Vista is a great system! Even though i do not yet own a computer with vista on it, i have seen and used vista and its by far better than xp. I currently have xp home edition and it is not a very capable computer anymore. Hangs on certain websites, slow to open programs. I have had enough and am ready to switch to vista. By the way, my brother has a mac book pro and i have used it and i can tell you macs are not worth the money. Buy a computer with vista!

That is the point, they don't. As I said they are on par with other name brand PCs when they are built to the same specs. It is that way in just about everything in life. Why is Coca-Cola more expensive than a no name brand "cola"? Their cost of doing business is MUCH higher! Now the other thing is that Dell offers a much wider range of computers from the inexpensive to the very expensive. Apple does not.
The Gateway one is no different or more "special" than the iMac!

Correct. It is not just an Apple approach either. Take a look at Alienware. All they make are beautifully designed high end machines and their reputation is very good. It is still a PC just like any other. Does that mean they are ripping people off? No, they just chose to make a high end, well built reliable product. Again this is not exclusive to the computer industry. Look at Toyota vs Kia! It is much the same. It is all where you choose to market your product.

MarketShare Says they ALMOST have 7% of the Market (Sept-Octo Stats) and PC's have 93% (Windows+Linux Combine).
They are getting up there, but they don't have as many users man.

Sorry, let me clarify that Stat (The ones just released today):
User percentage:
Windows has 90.46%
Linux has .71%
Mac has 8.21%
Linux and Windows = PC Thus Windows% + Linux% = PC usage. Thus resulting in 91.17.
Mac almost has 1/10th of the users PC's have.
I don't hate Mac dude, but get your Stats right.
(Also I know it doesn't add up to 100%, other things like the Wii were also included in the overall percentage).

there is no such thing as popularity virus wise. And so what? I mean at least you're buying the OS and the computer from one company. Where as what? For windows, you're buying the OS from one company and the computer from another. Not only that, you do not need to worry about Antivirus or Firewall. Leopard was built on a Unix Kernal. And I have seen iMacs. I think they are pretty impressive machinery.

I never said you did man. And I agree with you. I don't like the dock thing on Leopard. I mean Leopard is confusing and completely different from Windows. But I've used it a couple of times and it looks like it is a great computer. But I still like Windows too. I have had it with Window though. I have had a lot of probs. Like, I renewed my antivirus software and when I tried to download the product it would work.

Yea, our school went to iMac's, and my teacher was like thats gonna cause so many problems, b/c most everyone has grown up with a Windows PC, and not a Mac. I feel the same way about Vista, thats why I am still using XP, I myself tried Vista, I had it for 3 days, and jugged it.

well, they are saying that they have worked out some problems with Vista. And I am still thinking of a PC incase I ever need to return to one. And I think I might have to go with a PC for now, b/c Macs are just too damn expensive. But I am still trying to save for one.

Windows IS more popular then OS X. That is why more viruses are made for Windows.
A Macintosh running OS X can get Windows viruses, but they don't do anything, because they are designed for Windows. OS X has viruses as well.
There is even Anti-virus for OS X now.
Due to not being popular, OS X doesn't have as many viruses. If OS X was the more popular OS, then it would have more viruses for it.

That's partially true. But OS X is a very powerful unix system, which makes it much harder to really infect it, too. All viruses that were ever written for OS X had to be installed with your Administration Password. Anyone who installs unknown Software which he didn't download wilingly with his Masterpassword is a big security risk on his own already.

to me vista looks very decent. its actually not that bad to tell you the truth because i recommend the processor that has over 2 GHZ and at LEAST 1GIG of RAM.
Like i used at my realitives house.
Its a dell computer with almost 1GIG of RAM
And has an AMD Dual-Core processor over the speed of 2.66 GHZ.
I'm telling the truth. Im not being fake at all and I always wont be.

Windows vista is very good for using Wordpad.
But when using audio or multimedia one is forced to upgrade to a higher version of vista.
Friends of mine have had major problems when using multimedia. I suspect people using pc's for audio or music production will all turn to mac sooner than later.
I found it frustrating to use. I would not endorse it for any serious gaming or multimedia work. It is not reverse compatible.
Again use it for Wordpad or solitare and it works fine.

I have upgraded from High speed to Ultra speed 4 months ago. I have a laptop and a desktop computer. I have absolutely no problem with my desktop computer which is loaded with XP while my Vista laptop it's a totally different story despite the ultra speed and upgrade of 2GB RAM. I have to wait for so long to open my mail or even to connect to the internet. Guess what. I prefer to use my desktop computer to make this comment rather than my Vista Laptop. I WILL NEVER BUY A VISTA COMPUTER AGAIN!!!!

that won't happen. MOst windows users are stuck in the windows mind set which is that they expect everything not to work. This begins to spill over into everything else like their cars, food, diets, marriages, and etc. They think contol+alt+delete is some kind of cure all for every problem they have.

my computer is an intel macintosh. and no, it is not crappie, i am a software engeneering student and have used lots of operating systems and i can say that out them all, windows is the worst os. i am not saying this because i feel like it, i really have stuied windows and i can say in a objective way w/o any personal feelings involed, even though it works, windows compared to any other os out there is the very worst one.

What makes it the worst? You say its the worst but back it up with legit reasons. Id honestly like to know what makes it worse to you. Your also an "Engineer student" so what you need a computer for is different than what others need it for. So your not dumb enough to get viruses and stuff on a PC and you probably know how to build one right so hardware is compatible with each other and does not conflict and crash the system. So all that stuff aside why is Windows the Worst?

Vista is a great system! Even though i do not yet own a computer with vista on it, i have seen and used vista and its by far better than xp. I currently have xp home edition and it is not a very capable computer anymore. Hangs on certain websites, slow to open programs. I have had enough and am ready to switch to vista. By the way, my brother has a mac book pro and i have used it and i can tell you macs are not worth the money. Buy a computer with vista!
