UMMM thats a lame auto..Steves real car was a GT AND had the 4 speed. Didnt you hear him double clutching it right before the charger flipped in the movie? Im 25 and I know that!!
@ryanjh2005 He actually drove an automatic in the movie; the whole shifting and double-clutching thing was just faked. You can tell the car's an auto when McQueen leaves the accident scene with the motorcyclist, and you can hear the tranny upshift; no double-clutching whatsoever, and the wheels instantly loose a little traction because of the power shift.
@Wochensau really? i dont know how many of those cars they used for the movie..I know its under 4. Also though Mcqueens son has one and it is infact a 4 speed. I dont know..been a while since i looked into all that, Was going to do a LX hatch like that but went with a 1992 Z28 instead. Good info though bro
I would like to ask Jeremy to name one British car that was made in 1968, became a legend and everyone who is at least bit concerned about automotive knows it's name and history. Also I would like to know how precise the steering was and what kind of brakes it had. I'm from Czech Republic, where in 1968 people cared about communists overtaking the country and if somebody had a car, it was Lada, or Skoda Octavia (look it up).
@Wochensau What the hell is a 3 year difference, for the next 40 years, I can't think of any european production car, that is so well known and became best selling legend right after it's introduction
No problem, the '73 911 2.7L RS would eat the mustang 390 for lunch.....I don't know your knowlegde in EU AND US cars, but, knowing both, there are both great but the pleasure is different. Old 911 are all the opposite, very light, very efficient body, you can leave the braking very late, deal with corners at very high speed.
@paladinrulez Think VW 'beetle', it was a legend from the start and was made without major changes for more than 70 years while a Mustang is a different model for almost every year. Another legend is the Porsche 911, and there is the small Mini that made it easily into the 21 century.
So if u grew up in the "BACK" what does that have to do with "DRIVING"? Just asking. And I'm not one of those guys who hates American cars cuz that's not me I absolutely love classic muscle. I just think your comment is a bit vague and biased don't u think?
there are really 2 things things that will give a man real goosebumps. First, is the woman he's nailing screaming his name and clawing his back, that will probably never change. And second, is the sound of a classic mustang's V8 roaring as he puts the pedal to the floor.
Add subframe connectors and a modern front and rear suspension set up (plus disc brakes) and you have it all. Ultracool, fast AND a handler.Plus uniqueness.....
Wow that guy doesnt know what he is talking about, all he does is sit on his butt and talk, i grew up in the backseat of mustangs and none of what he is saying is true.
If U loved Bullit ,check out SMcQ in LeMans (PHE 1474)U will love it!!!

@paladinrulez There were no Ladas yet in 1968, comrade. The 2101 appeared only in 1971. And they were overtaken by Volgas and Chaikas.

God these guys are idiots...
1. 390 Was not the horse power. They were rated at like 325 and 390is the size of the engine.
2. Its not a real GT because GTs had disk brakes up front.
