Please let me know how he performed. He shows dedication and knowledge far beyond his years. As for sparring. At his age it is not a test of whether he could defeat the opponents, it is a test of what in TaeKwonDo is known as the Indomitable Spirit which I am certain he will display!!! Good Luck!!!
@bnxsteve1213 Good timming! He test's for his Black Belt today....He has had several tests already but today is the last one. Board Breaking, he also must stand and test with all colored belts as they test to their next level. He must also spar with as many as 4 black belts at the same time. Some say he is too young..I say so what! Ive seen his effort and all his hard work. He deserves it. Black belt is not an end...It is a beginning and this is his day to start that journey!
Hello. I think it's just awesome that your child has gone to Korea for testing. I want the same for my Grandson, right now he's just 7 and has been training for 10 months now. I have plenty of time to save and hopefully I can have him tested in KUKKIWON... may I ask, how did you plan yours? You can message me.. I think it's wonderful that we instill martial arts into our children. My Grandson has learned a lot of self discipline, sportsmanship, critical thinking skills for sparring, & etc.
@Poohcifer Hey thanks for your kindness, Actually we lived in Korea for about 2 years. He started Tae Kwon Do in Korea. I would'nt really know how to go from the USA to test. Maybe finding a Sabum who is from Korea to arrange it would be best. Good luck!
Thanks for sharing. most Americans don't get it, unless you've lived it & breathed it in the homeland of TKD you just won't understand. and it's interesting how in the U.S. the color rank systems have twice as many colors as in Korea (?)
It is good to see the encouragement and support from his parents as well, he has a long beautiful journey ahead of him but is off to a fantastic start.
@theofficialdojang Thanks for getting it. Some coming on here to judge a child is crazy. Especially when they are clueless on the whole story. Gabe is in the middle of his black belt test prep. It will take place in Feb 2012 and he is on track. He knows all his required forms. Spars, and is educated on the history and tenents of TKD. He can run 4 miles now and he does 100+ push ups and sit ups at a time. Thanks for your kind words.
Gabe is now a Red/Black Belt and will test for his Black Belt in Feb. He has come a long way and is doing well. His poom belt is still on the wall and we look upon it with fond memories of a great time in Korea.
no offennce but he kinda sucks he's pattern lacks power his blocks are all wrong espeacially his red/black pattern low block and inner block i may not be a poom belt but i noe that he does his pattern rongly cause im a singapore inter school champion and i train with the best in singapore
@goodhereify Offence taken!, Ok, He was 6 years old in this video. We are not in the great and vast martial arts mecca of singapore but I'm sure your the second coming of Bruce Lee. Look at the kids on the mat my friend, And I emphasize the word kids! We lived in Korea and this was at the Kukkiwon and he passed his test. It isn't about you or YOUR awesomeness! It was about him! Get a life, and walk your own path instead of talking crap about a 6 year old! He's now 8, testing for black in Feb!
Respond to this video... oh and a piece of advice tell him to keep always twist his wrist when he blocks like for righ hand twist it clockwise direction and for the left anti clockwise it might look btr just saying
@goodhereify Your killing me! This video is of events almost 2 years ago. Posted here on youtube over a year ago. He now kicks over 2000 kicks a day and can kick 25 times without putting his foot down. He trains daily and has won several tournaments. He is on a journey that is his and his alone. I appreciate the advice but it is not pertinant to the current fighter he is. I will subscribe to your channel and await a video of your ablitilies, and compare to what our kids can do at your age.
@hoooryeti Yes, in TKD there is a purple belt. ITF and WTF both use them. The School we go to even has Purple advanced. (Purple with black stripe) They have a reason for 2 purples that I wont go in to now.
@PsypherDeus well from where i come from it starts like this
white, white yellow, yellow, yellow green, green, green blue, blue, blue red, red, red black , poom 1 poom2 poom3 poom 4 black 1-9
i have no purple belt so my journey to becoming a black belt is just shorter i think it's good i 'd but the training for me is just very tough. anyways happy for your son and hopes he becomes succesful
Gabe has now competed in 4 tournements and we are really focusing on Sports karate sparring. He is about to test for his Advanced Purple belt (Purple with a black stripe). He has learned his Bo form and he now knows 5 ITF forms as well. He does have a mental block on the board breaking. Sometimes the board wins. lol. He'll get it though.
@tillmantkdkick He started at a neighborhood dojang, He recieved a new belt every month or so. After about 15 Months the School registered him to test at the Kukkiwon. He Tested at the same time as about a 1000 other kids. The testing seem to me to be mostly ceremonial. The awarding of belts in Korea seems to be on the word of the Sabum (teacher) Gabe knew 4 forms and they tested him on 2 of them. they also did a little sparring exhibition. Older kids are required to learn 8 forms.
@tillmantkdkick I just want to reitterate that in the korean mindset. 1st dan is a begginer. Poom1 is a 1st dan below the age of 15. In the USA a 1st dan is an expert / journeyman. Almost every child in Korea takes TKD so getting to Poom level 1 is kind of like a right of passage by the age of 8. Different focus all together.
He just recieved his Purple. He needed Chongji Dan Gun DoSan Won Hyo Several Self Defence Moves Several Offensive kiking Combos Spared against 3 classmates at once. Moving right along. Next is Bo Staff. yay
In Korea the focus on kids is different than in the US. So most US Dojangs would not consider my son at a poom level. When we returned to the US he started at green belt at his new dojang, So this is about his Korean journey to Poom level 1. Martial arts are great for kids. Dont let the belts distract you. There is soo much more to it. He now wears his green belt with pride. His poom belt is on the wall. Peace!
