However, the Dutch government willingly took political responsibility out of a sense of moral self-righteousness while at the same time it underlined that the Dutch state as such could NOT be held accountable for this tragedy. It was being forced to work under UN-imposed operational restrictions and therefore felt uninspired to accept full responsibility.

Which is quite understandable, after months of being tasked to keep the peace without the necessary means and further support to do so. The soldiers didn't know what happened at that particular time... The horrible news about the massacre gradually dripped in just days after.

He was ordered not to resist as this would've put his men's lives in danger. They couldn't even try as they were outgunned and outnumbered 1 to 10. It was here that the Col realised he had been screwed over by his superiors for putting them in that inglorious predicament.

The serbs had taken the 30 dutch UN soldiers hostage. The Dutch were armed with small fire, were outnumbered and the serbs came with tanks. Air support was denied by the French commander, they had no permission to fire. You try protecting anything under those conditions.
The Dutch commander though he could save his soldiers and was mislead by the Serbian commander that the people of Srebrenica wouldn't be killed. It was a massive shame to the Dutch military and it's country.
Serbian town of Srebrenica was liberated by our great hero Ratko Mladic, there was no genocide there, just the massacre of imprisoned muslim fighters. 95 % of those killed there were MEN. Which is quite understandable, after months of being tasked to keep the peace without the necessary means and further support to do so. The soldiers didn't know what happened at that particular time... The horrible news about the massacre gradually dripped in just days after.

First of all, they were denied backup to halt the Serb advance even though it was plain to see that the situation just had to escalate. He was ordered not to resist as this would've put his men's lives in danger. They couldn't even try as they were outgunned and outnumbered 1 to 10. And he knew that his men (most had no real combat training nor experience) were not up to that. It was here that the Col realised he had been screwed over by his superiors for putting them in that inglorious predicament.

The serbs had taken the 30 dutch UN soldiers hostage. The Dutch were armed with small fire, were outnumbered and the serbs came with tanks. Air support was denied by the French commander, they had no permission to fire. You try protecting anything under those conditions.
The Dutch commander though he could save his soldiers and was mislead by the Serbian commander that the people of Srebrenica wouldn't be killed. It was a massive shame to the Dutch military and it's country.

First of all even if they wanted to protect those people the UN ROE had there hands tied, They were not allowed to use there weapons unless directly fired upon.
