Most definitely not a 'drop catch' at all, its just a hold. Drop catch will be properly executed when you release the flipper as the ball comes toward it decelerating the ball with the released movement and subsequent down-playerfield inertia of the flipper. The ball decelerates to usually an almost zero velocity, and then is available immediately for a shot.
This is NOT a drop catch, as several others have pointed out. Mr. Daniels, exactly what world pinball championship have you won? (You need to win a world pinball championship to call yourself a world pinball champion, y'know.) Heck, even I have actually won one (a 1st-place PAPA finish). So, where's your championship title? Clown.
How dare you disagree with Leo Daniels. I mean, he's THE Leo Daniels and he has a natural ability to shine above normal men. If he says that's a drop catch, well, you all better just start calling it a drop catch. Let me point out again, this is Leo Daniels. Yes THE Leo Daniels.
You are not demonstrating this technique correctly; inaccurate just like the death-save video. Sigh...
A drop catch is when the ball is flying at a flipper; and you drop it exactly when the ball is hitting the raised flipper; the ball then almost appears to be 'stuck' to the lowered flipper momentarily; allowing a highly controlled shot to be made. It's essentially a method of 'stalling' the ball momentarily on the flipper bat.
Shame expert village couldn't actually find an expert...
Neither of the techniques demonstrated is named correctly. A drop catch occurs when the player drops the flipper to deaden the ball as it approaches, similar to the way a bunt is executed in baseball.

Now, for something completely different. FAIL.
