When I was a kid my friends across the street had a Sega Master System and this game! I loved it so much...especially because of the music! I had a NES and I was so excited when I saw Adventure Island was coming out (in Nintendo Power). It looked just like Wonderboy! But when I bought Adventure Island I was disappointed that they changed the music! Wonderboy music is superior!!

@CruelRealityFilms Actually, it's kinda the other way around. Adventure Island *is* Wonderboy, but on non-Sega systems. Sega owned the Wonderboy character, but another company owned the other elements. Since Sega didn't want Wonderboy showing up on the NES (and many other systems), Hudson changed the character art and title, creating this. The other Adventure Island games are original, though, not ports of the later Wonderboy games.

No, Sega allowed Hudson to use the code from the original arcade game to develop Adventure Island, which actually is the NES port of this game. Why not have one of your non-core games appear on the compeditor's more sucessful machine?

They also tried it less sucessfully with Shinobi, which they got Atari to release unofficially for the NES. By that time Nintendo hated atari and was fully aware of Sega trying to release their titles on the NES through other channels too.

@Kruspe12 Yes, it did, but it wasn't plagiarism; both games were made by the same company, but Sega owned the rights to the Wonder Boy name, so when porting the game to NES they had to change the title and main character.

My best friends had a Sega Master System growing up and I had a NES. I always claimed dominance with my console because of Super Mario and Contra and Castlevania, and so on. But the day they brought home WONDER BOY from Toys R Us was the day I was green with envy!! I ended up getting Hudson's Adventure Island but it's only a shadow of the game that is WB. I now own a SMS and Wonder Boy and cherrish it every day!!

@nooblet911 : Yes, I must agree. AI has a feel all it's own. Hudson gave this series its love. And it can be seen in all the sequels. WB also took it's own path in the later entries of the series. Westone did a great job too!

@junaidddd  Ok well what you can do is get what is called an "emulator". Just google something like sega master system emulator and download one you want to use. Then, you need to find a ROM image of this game. Just google up wonderboy rom and you should find one. This is considering "illegal" by some wouldn't advise it. If you have a Wii, however, you could download this in exchange for 500 wii points on the shop channel.

You can say that, but it was the other way actually. Nintendo was jealous of Sega's Wonder Boy success and made Hudson Soft to develop an adaptation called Adventure Island.
