  • hey, i managed to loosen all the ball links, the head is amazing free and falls effortlessly. :)

I got a spare ball and used a hobby knife to make a mark on it, i then put the ball in to my drill, so the ball was sticking out. worked very well indeed. Links are loose but still tight enough to not be pulled of easily.

  • Yep that was an old school trick I learnt many years ago, still very effective as you now know.

I am happy that your head is nice and free yet snug. Happy flying!

  • Hi, I checked over my head and found that the linkages to the blade holders are very tight, apart from that the head is very loose. For some reason all my ball links are quite tight, looks like I'm gonna have to get a ball link reamer. Did you have the same problem?

    Thnx

  • Oh yes I have an Align ball link resizer, and I used it on a couple of linkages come to think of it I think it was the blade grip balls too that I had to resize. However you can simply use a spare ball, use an exacto knife and make a neat score mark on the ball and turn that inside the linkage this will do the same as the ball link resizer but take care doing that.

  • Hi, so would u recommend me taking apart my rotar head and starting again or would my head be ok

Also when you sprayed silicone down the boom would wd-40 do the same job as I have no silicone spray. Thnx

  • NO for some reason WD40 burns at high RPM then it becomes sticky

  • and also no need to pull apart the head, if it is free in movement then that is all you need, I just go over the top... thats me....

  • Hi, just a quick question on how you got ur rotar head so loose as yours squash plate moves down by itself. Mine is no where as close as that. Or would it slowly loosen up? Any help would be appreciated. Thnx

  • I am very particular about how things line up and lubricating the parts in certain places. This is a 100% new heli, it has not been spooled up yet. I first fit the parts dry and then check each bolt to make sure it fits well, and that nothing is binding, then I touch some parts and I do mean touch with some teflon lube, I use a toothpic and just touch the washers, or have a little smeared on my fingers and just that little amount is adequate. I also ensure that there is 0 or close to 0 play

  • and always use loctite in all the bolts. Its a long process because I really fit everything on 2 times or more to make sure it is all perfectly aligned, the final touch is the loctite and ensuring it is always away from bearings and bushes as you have seen in the videos. Call it extreme but I just like to be as perfect as it can be. All my heli's are built with the same care, especially on the head as the head is dangerous at the speeds these heli get to on the blades. dont want it falling apart
