i have seen it :)the end is beautiful trust me. She finds simon dead because for 9 months he has been locked in a basement without eating so he died. Then she takes many pills and dies of overdos then she sees all the ghosts of the orphanage still young and beautiful like they were before they died poisoned by benigna"toma's mom) (tomas is the boy with the sack on his head) Benigna was crazy and she killed all the other kids of the orphanage cuz she tought they killed tomas so she took revenge.
I agree. The Orphange is a great movie - but The Ring was much scarier. Come to think of it - The Ring might be the best J-horror remake of the past decade.
I don't think fear was even a strong intention within the supernatural picture. xD I think the director was trying to ease us into a sympathetic relationship with the characters first, then threaded the rest with suspense.
I cried toward the end too...when...well the very 'sad thing' happened. But at the very, VERY end, as I kept crying, I didn't know if I was weeping tears of sorrow, or joy. The ending was just so beautiful. I was truly moved..
the wife, Laura, used to live in that orphanage when she was a kid so she decides to move back there when its abandoned. The kid with the mask was a kid that was deformed, but no one knew he lived in the orphanage, not even Laura. Only his mom, who used to work there. The kid gets murdered in accident after Laura gets adopted and thats why everything begins....
I agree with u. Its funny because this movie is described as "seriously haunting" and creepy as hell but really its just suspenseful and a beautiful ghost tale. The one review I do like of the movie is "So tense you'll need to calm yourself by saying, 'its only a movie!'" -by Time magazine. The movie made me experience multiple emotions like some fear, laughter, anger, and most of all sadness.
(SPOILERS)she came back to try and hide the dead children she had killed, the ones in the flour sacks, hence the shovel and the marks on the door. I'm not sure why she had his file I'll have to re watch it again to see if I can figure it out...
I finally saw this and totally loved it. It was one of those rare films the Misses was able to watch and enjoy with me. Very, creepy and an outstanding job by the female lead.

Great comment. No doubt therein lies the secret to El Orfanato's success. Thank you for posting.

Why does that old creepy lady come back to the orphanage and tell laura she has Simon's old adoptive file? And then she hides in the shed.
