While I have to disagree with IGN's assessment of CC not having a single memorable track, they didn't say the music was bad. They said it was very good, but there only track that really brought it down was the normal battle theme. I have to admit, it's not the greatest :-/
Arni Village, Time's Scar, Termina, Dreamwatch of Time, Dragon God, Life- Faraway Promise, Magical Dreamers, People Imprisoned By Destiny... how are these not memorable? Those are memorable within all RPG tracks.
Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great games such as Chrono Cross. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
@sunnyfinny What? I DO Hum ALL OF THEM at school, at work, everywhere! Seriously, this Soundtrack just traps you and makes you FEEL even if you didn't play the game! Just ask my mom, lol! <3
IGN is nuts, I love most of the songs in Chrono Cross; they are awesome. Chrono Cross is one of the most influential games in my life, aside from Suikoden (the whole series) and Kya Dark Lineage.
You must just be that younger generation then cause Chrono Trigger was the influential game in my life, Chrono Cross was a let down compared to Trigger...but a great game none the less.
@RWDatsyuk IDK maybe, I was 3 when Chrono Trigger came out. However the first game of a series that you play tends to be your favorite, I also think I love it so much is because it's alot like a Suikoden game.
i still find prontera from RO deserves number 1. sorry. yes i understand this game's music is AMAZING.... i cant put it into words, but i still think that prontera is more deserving than just around the 20s.... I forever <3 chrono chross, the music makes me feel so nostalgic T_T.... i hate not knowing the music that makes me feel nostalgic. be it from games, tv shows, whatever. i get sad at that point T_T. but im also happy.
When this song started playing my first thought was "Huh? Top 3? Really? the other town themes in Chrono Cross are better than this..."...then the Flute started playing at 0:25, washing away all doubts about it I had at that moment, and all I could do afterwards was quietly listen and reminisce.
@zebezd Ah, I remember that game, I used to LOVE that game, in fact, if I still had it, I would still LOVE the game, too bad I sold it x.x Along with Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy 7 over 8 years ago which I regret dearly!
T.T i alwways cry when i remember this game not my bro neither myself couldnt finish the game....yeah...calll us noobs or whatever but still good game good tracks and most important squareenix rocks!!! ty for the upload
Yeah, and I definitely have no right to argue with them on their remark, huh? They can say it sucks, I can call them idiots for saying it sucks. Don't be such a dumbass
@Morbutt Can't say I have read the review either, but thats a pretty ridiculous statement. While playing the game it was immediately evident to me that some tracks would last the test of time. On the Beach of Dreams - Another World = Win. Among others as well.
@Morbutt I don't mean to go on a rant but I'll explain something Ive noticed since this and Xenogears.
Alot of RPGs of the past decade have had really good soundtracks but either the game itself was lackluster which lowered the overall perceived quality of the music of the music itself was poorly mixed or integrated.
I feel like had this music been with a nice 2D game it would have stood out alot more.
@Morbutt Actually, they also say that "The soundtrack is by no means bad, as it's one of the best that you'll ever find on a videogame" and "Yasunori Mitsuda should be credited with crafting a brilliant score that does wonders in stirring the emotional strings of the players as they're playing through the game."
@Morbutt IGN is biased towards anything coming out for Xbox360. It's a shame though, cause they have a lot of reputations and the reviews are actually thorough.
@Morbutt That's not what IGN. IGN said, "If one were to want to pick out the area of Chrono Cross that doesn't simply destroy its counterparts, it would have to be the game's music and sound. The soundtrack is by no means bad, as it's one of the best that you'll ever find on a videogame, but it stands as the weakest aspect of this brilliant game." They're saying that the soundtrack is the weakest aspect of the game, but it isn't BAD. They also said that unlike other RPGs of that era...
the graphics are obviously the weakest part... the music is one of my favorite soundtracks ever, and only enhanced the game. Saying its the weakest part of the game means that it brought the game down.
@Morbutt such as Xenogears and the Final Fantasy games, Chrono Cross doesn't have a track that stand out above the rest of the tracks in the soundtrack, all though the soundtrack as a whole is fantastic. Haven't you ever listened to an album that is amazing when you listen to the whole thing from start to finish, but when you select the tracks to listen to, it just doesn't do justice?
Tempted to open my boxes to pull out my ps1. I never actually finished the game...I got to the boss. But I feel like playing all over just for the music.
well back in #8 i asked underworld whether memories of green or zeal's palace would count as town theme, and he said memories of green counts, so i'll take that as a hint. Besides, I think its mighty strange that we've only gotten one chrono trigger theme, which is in my opinion one of the weaker town themes of the game.
well, still, i really hope to see another chrono trigger entry, though it is as you said, there are many more better themes than can fit in only two spots above this. I guess it boils down to personal tastes.
Nice choice, Mr. World. These definitely deserve the top spot. Now I have my fingers crossed that the top two will be the ones I'm thinking. Of course I'm always up for surprises!
