Before we invaded, there were no active jihadists in Iraq. Even now, foreign fighters and Al Queda make up less than 10% of the resistance to our occupation. The vast majority of the people we have killed in Iraq are either civilians or Iraqi patriots fighting a violent occupation- little different from the Minute Men ("terrorists," the British called them).

TURTLe I was a Marine and I fought in Vietnam. I went there thinking I was fighting for freedom. I left there knowing I was fighting for my life and my brothers lives. When I returned home I was bitter. Sent to a war that the government decided they did not want to win, but left us there. Who is this enemy? In Vietnam, the enemy was mostly the VIETNAMESE, they just happened to belong to a government from a different latitude. In Iraq, 90% of the resistance to our occupation is THE RESISTANCE: Iraqis. If "the enemy" will stop at nothing, why aren't they here? They can walk across the border and cut my throat right now. Where are the comments disparaging troops? It's all aimed at the policy that hurts our country and the troops especially.

Well most of the comments are outrage about these wounded troops and their loved ones making these commercials. You comments have been repectful but some have been very disrespectful One person called the mom a Whore. They are planning to kill us and they will. what I worry about is them using a dirty bomb. I worry about our response, what will we do go atomic on some country??

Who knows, maybe we'll invade a country that had nothing to do with the attack (notice how quickly we forget the awful things that have ALREADY happened). A dirty bomb would- horrors- increase the risk of cancer to people present in a two mile radius, give or take (not to discount the people who would be killed by the actual explosion, which is deadlier). I might die in a car crash, a dirty bomb is nothing to lose sleep over (yet another media facade).

What worries me most is what happened to Jose Padilla; an American born citizen detained in isolation without charge or legal council for over five years on the supposed grounds that he was trying to build a dirty bomb, yet when he was finally tried there was NO mention of anything about a dirty bomb nor any other specific illegal act.
He sure did love Big Brother when they finally released him, though.

There's no excuse for calling that woman a whore, but I presume that the rage is the result of seeing yet another propaganda push from these awful politicians. It's misdirected anger, I think (though still disrespectful).

Your perspective that the Vietnamese were happy to see us go is inaccurate at best. Remember the old rhetoric that losing Viet Nam would mean the spread of communism throughout the region. That's certainly not been the case and most of SE Asia has rapidly moved toward free-market economy, democratic rule. Strange how our political propoganda never turns out to be correct in the long run. Fear mongering keeps wars going and builds more rabid reactionaries.

caroljl1 I can asure you that the North Vietnamese were glad to see us go. That allowed them to take all of Vietnam in 1975. Just because I fear the future attacks of Al Qaeda does not make me a fear monger, it makes me Hyper Vigilant. You can sit there and hold hands and sing Kumbayah and the will still want you dead. It will come down to fight or die with the Jihadist.

Fearing for the country's safety can be a good thing- when it leads to be paranoid about phantom boogeymen, it is not. I've said a dozen times times: our borders are insecure meaning that anyone has free access to the country. Where, then, are the p"Al Qaeda"?

TURTLE The border security is a disgrace, and Congress and the President have shwon criminal neglect. that is why the Democrta Congress has an approval rating of 18% and the President somewhere around 30%. they do nothing and as JAVAN1 said they have no backbone.

I hope that God is merciful, and poor Jesse isn't aware that his mother is being used as propaganda. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and this poor mother lost a son and still doesn't understnad that. Dishonorable and disgraceful.
