  • You are killing me! In the best way! The chords make my heart ache!

  • Thanks !

Great to hear from Dust friends !

  • Great job, man! I think I remember you from the CW website forum.

  • Magical! 音色が良いですね。彼を1度でも日本で見たかったです。

  • Thank you! Arigato!

  • You do Chris Whitley such justice! Arigato!

  • Dear Hiroshi, I have been enjoying your cover versions of CW for months now and really enjoy them and thanks for sharing the insight. You have studied very deeply and I compliment you on the feel you convey. I can just about get by with Scrapyard after watching your excellent posting. Domo Arigato.

  • @piptaylor99

Thanks for your kind comment and 'Arigato' ;-)

Lately, I am listening to and trying to transcribe some songs in DIN album.

So difficult to work on, but finding again soooooo beautiful they are, whatever the guitar sound is (electric distortion sound, or clean, or acoustic).

  • @rustradio

Dear Hiroshi - You are very welcome and it is well deserved, thank you for posting and your valued study. In fact I am not familiar with the DIN album so will hunt it down.

One tech question I see you use the same pickup on your guitars as CW. What type of pickup is it a Barcus Berry perhaps? I use a King pickup on my reso which is close but not correct. Many thanks - Arigato.

    Pip

  • @piptaylor99 Hi Pip!

Sorry, it seems I haven't replied to your question.

Sure, the pickup is Barcus Berry, called HI-TEK (?) and the model number is to be 2522.

Now it's fairly hard to find I think, while I was lucky to find and purchase a few pcs via eBay or online guitar store at reasonable prices... more than 5 years ago, though.

  • @rustradio Wow! thank you so much for doing this--fantastic--I loved chris and saw him many times... peace---- wade

  • Two of CW's more intricate and ethereal tunes. Wonderful work!

  • @WPVid1 Yeah! These tunes are so beautiful! It was a bit hard to transcribe with the original tracks in "Din" album. While, other acoustic versions from "Weed" or "Live at Martyrs" were so helpful. BTW, Don't you think "Ultraglide" is as beautiful as these ones ? I want to upload it someday. Anyway, I just wonder How Chris could write these and more beautiful tunes with the authentic Open-G or altered Open-G (with 6th string lowered) tunings... not getting into kinda stale blues type.

  • Great job, i love this song.

  • OH!!! So good man! Very good job...! Sounds so much like the real deal, Chris' playing that is. Are you using a standard tuning? And did Chris use that, or open tunings? SO GOOD! 5*****

  • Thanks!!

The tuning I used here is

    C# G# D# G# C D# (6th to 1st string)

I believe the original tuning Chris used is

    D A E A C# E

This is a Open-A with the bottom string dropped down to D. Interest and cool sound it is !!

  • Well thank you for the feedback... You play it so well! Keep 'em coming!

  • ......beautiful playing.....and a nice crisp video image too....but I still like that cellphone 'Loco Girl'!....

  • GOOD one hiroshi! love you dust brother.....

  • Great, great - just great! Heebie-jeebies I got. But another story: where's the DUST FORUM gone? It seems to work no more - I miss it. We should keep the memory alive. Greetings from the one known as Sascha in the Dust Forum.

  • We were listening to Weed this morning. You are such a teriffic guitarist Hiroshi.

  • Wow! What an awesome job you've done with NP! Beautiful and wonderful playing....

  • Great Playing Hiroshi, thanks ! Where is the dust forum? Can't get in it.

  • Great playing Hiroshi. The tone of your electric resonator is impressive.

  • Thanks!

The guitar I use here, is Resolectric by National resophonic guitars... made in 1991 A little too heavy guitar and not that loud as full acoustic resonators, but good enough volume and sound to play unplugged in a room.

  • Hiroshi,

Really great stuff. Let us know what Resonators you use. I like the tone of the black electric the best. Looks like a National Electric Resonator.

  • Narcotic Prayer will always be my favourite Chris song.

As always, pure brilliance, Brother Hiroshi!

    Will email you soon.

    All the best, Lloydy

  • Thanks!

    Talk to you soon.

(Wow, I could reply by "comment" feature...which

I had much trouble and did not work)

    Hiroshi

  • Wow, just great Hiroshi. Made me sing along right away! BTW - what's the tuning for those songs? And do you know anything about the dustforums being down? It was getting interesting lately as there has been the idea of making a Chris Whitley tribute with coverversions/songs for Chris.

    Peace and noise,

    Ope

  • Thanks!

Tuning is Open-G with dropped bottom string down to C.

Hope the Dust Forums come back soon!

(Dan is working hard on it, I heard.)
