There no such thing as a Chinese language! Two major languages in China are mandarin and Cantonese. They're speaking in Cantonese. Most Chinese American or western Chinese speak Cantonese. China national language is mandarin.

I, myself, speak Sichuanese, but I consider that a branch of the Chinese language. Even if Chinese from certain provinces may not understand each other verbally, they can understand each other by writing and reading because we all share the same written language
