The problem is that the military ignored environmental impact and laws claiming that national security trumped these concerns.
Poisoning your own people is not national security, it's doing the enemy's job for them. Aside from the human cost there is also the financial cost which we can ill afford. And don't forget the political cost, which is the distrust that the government engenders when it mistreats it own citizens.
WORKERS are not being helped who are now sick with cancer!
Our government pretends -
NUCLEAR = GREEN.
GUESS WHAT:
NUCLEAR DOES NOT EQUAL GREEN!
GUESS WHAT ELSE:
IT NEVER DID!
In fact, IF, in the past 60 years we'd pursued clean and renewable energy resources - wow - we would be soooo ahead of where we are today having taken only steps BACK in time, like a mass of deaf, dumb and blind sheep we keep following greedy, visionless demented leaders right into the toxic sludge holes (they've created).
lol, this has almost nothing to do with modern nuclear energy production. This is the waste left behind from the Manhattan Project an later nuclear research, no modern reactors use methods like this to store nuclear waste. Get educated.

We did. In fact we've been at it with wind power and solar thermal for a hundred years. They're mature technologies; whatever they're going to do, they're doing it now and it's no bloody good at anything but capturing subsidies and providing unusuable intermittent power.

thank God we Renewable Energy Choices today. I can't believe there was a day we used Nuclear Power to create electricity when the Waste product last thousands of years and causes deadly cancers if humans and life is near it. this is sick and sad. I'm glad these days are no more. Photovoltaics solar panels, and wind farms, create clean energy for today.
Hanford nuclear waste was not produced for creating new energy, it was produced while making a nuclear bomb for the manhatan project. The cleanup of Hanford has been slowed down due to lack of funding from the government since "the war on terror". This waste continues to move towards the Columbia river and it continues to be a threat to peoples drinking water.

Have a look what the skies above our nuclear waste storage look like:
"HUGE storms over Europe 28 June 2011 update"
There is something seriously wrong! I live 5 miles from the Areva facility in Petten.
and have been noticing and recording the effects for months now.
After seeing that video you'll realise what they are doing.
If you have simular experiences near reactors or nuclear waste storages -you know what I mean if you do- I would like to hear about that.

They're no bloody good and will only lead to more coal power; see Germany for an illustrative example(26 new coal plants planned).

What do you mean was? It provides more energy now than it ever did in the past.
