Americans seem to forget that the British were effectively on the other side of the world, and that it took months for soldiers to cross from any British territory to America. The Brtish were also facing America and her allies so we were outnumbered as well.
Basically, Americans saying "We kicked Briddish ass" is stupid, because there was no way the British could win, considering the odds pitched against them.

@JB91UK The British didn't lose due to military disadvantage, but to a politics one. England won most of the battles in America. So England lost a politics war, not a military one.

The british navy at this time was being overhauled. And for your ally's in America, the Dutch, French, Spanish and on the European continent the Austrians aswell as more minor nations were backing you at this time.
Britain was also strung up in India and on the European continent, with various wars, such as the first Maratha-Anglo wars. Additonally to this England was bankrupted due to the previous wars in the French and indian war.

England had sent around 20, 000 soldiers to the Americas to quel the rebellion, while the rebelling 13 colonies had a number resembling 3 million vaulenteers for her armies. So it isn't a wonder with all your alliances and you also used tactics such as the 'hit and run' dcoctrine which a country like Britain would never use.
And in the years prior to those tacticas we won nearlly every single battle aside from a few minor and 1 or 2 larger battles, in open warfare.

@castlerock302 An odd thing to say, certainly British people aren't as obsessed with orthodentistry as some Americans seem to be, but you can find perfectly good teeth here too, and terrible ones in the States. I never understand where this stupid stereotype comes from. Decades of NHS provision has at least meant that poor people could afford dental treatment, in the past they never could. And of course the better-off can always go private.

I don't think the British ever stationed more than about 55,000 Regulars in all the Americas at any one time--thus much of the King's forces were made up of American Loyalists trained and led by British officers--that means we were kicking our own asses a lot of the time! Also worth considering is the fact that the American colonists had more than a few friends in Parliament, so Great Britain herself was divided on this war.
