As you were talking about torque bands, its pretty much the same as everyone flipping out over Honda's Vtec engines in the car world. Powerband kicking it past (4kRPM?) Just like a Ninja 250R Pre-2008. Its just more fun. Just risky in the corners. The dog scene was cute, I can only imagine the drivers reaction to you rolling up and baby-talking the dog. Was cute though, Im starting to do it to dogs now, I guess it got it from you. Great video, I like the bike.
I find on naked bikes 80 is the highest comfortable speed, anything over that and you find as you said that the wind batters you and your helmet gets blown about pretty bad.
I never really cared much for it as it gave the feeling of even low speeds quite a kick because you really had to hold on... You could really feel it.
Then I got onto a ZXR 400 sport and couldn't feel a thing even up to 120... You could feel the power but it wasn't half as thrilling as on the naked bikes.
Get a GS500, CB600, CB750 or something like that. Learn to ride properly, THEN possibly consider a sports bike. It's like someone who hasn't got a [car's] driver's license going, gee, I haven't ever driven a car. Should I start with a Lamborghini?
And the only reason that might not be a valid comparison is that my [sports]bike has got close to three times as much power per ton as the most powerful car Lamborghini makes.

Sorry, but it's only about the 10th comment like that. People get tracked down all the time. People just need to ask themselves "Hmm, why would he censor that out?" And whatever answer they come up with first....is probably the right one.
yea but i enjoyed riding the z750... i agree some fairing helps in piercing the wind and bla bla but you know you did not duck and laid on the tank on the z1000, as opposed to what you did on the er6f... that's why most obviously you felt the wind blows and bla bla... well you said it before, I-4/I-2, different timings.. isn't it?
hmm yeah linear graph... well yeah that's the stuff about V engines.. esp V-4 of the vmax..
yeah i know what yeh were talkin'about: body adusjment/power.. :D
I get that bracing for power-reaction when I drive my car and I floor the pedal to the metal - and I feel a bit stupid when nothing really happens. That remainded me, winter here is waayy too long, I've gotten used to my 55hp cage, it is staring to feel powerful :S
The 650r is -not- going to reach 250-260kph. It hasn't got the power in the first place, let alone the right power curve to put the hp/tq where they need to be. That thing is doing well to make 130mph indicated. Real speeds are even lower. If a motorcycle went as fast as the dial says it will, the VFR would be a 190mph bike...
I made a few comments on this above, as I own the same bike. It will get VERY close to the end of the scale at around 217-218km/h, and of course, that's indicated, and probably NOT over "real" 205km/h. Not even in theory, with the gearing the bike has, there's no chance of 230km/h+ even downhill, as it will hit the rev limiter.
I put a vid link in the description.....I'm doing over 220 with a few thousand RPMs left to go. Maybe it's because I broke my bike in properly while most others didn't?
I broke my bike in just like you did, you'll probably hit 220 with the mods you did like the video shows, but there ISN'T "few thousan RPMs left to go", that's it! There's no more power beyond that mark in 6th! I've seen 220 with a topcase with a nice tail wind, so it's not impossible. 240, 250, 260 is..
Loving these vids, my RS125 have a power valve so when you get to 8000rpm it fly's like a turbo and it's only a 125. Also the CDI isn't de restricted so you get a dip from 5-7000 rpm so when you hit the power valve you get even more of a kick. Magic :O)
LOL imagine that women in the car.. a biker in full leather gear stops right beside you and starts to talk in a high pitch voice.. and then takes off really fast :D
Great Z1k series, but I'm suprised no one commented on "1:41 - My ninja can do 260". Um, we still talking about the 650R? No matter what mods you did, and even downhill, your ninja can not do 260, even if you are M13 :) It would probably hit the limiter even in 6th before 260 going down a very big slope.. You need 50% more power then the 650R has to get to 250 ballpark, FZ6S and other 100hp bikes do ~250, depending on the gearing and fairings.
Hell, even the Ninja 636 (ZX6R) has "problems" over 255km/h if it's windy or you're not wearing proper clothes. Anywhu, a stock 650R can do INDICATED 214-218km/h.
My speedo goes up to 220 I think. And I've buried the needle with about 3000rpm to spare. And my friend has the ER6n and he got 250 or more on the digital speedo. Sooooo.....not sure what it's real top speed is......but indicated is at least 240.
Ok, we got it down from 260 to 240. Let's work on it a bit more. The bike indicates 130mph (209kmh) at 9500rpms in 6th gear. With the maximum power of the bike claimed by kawasaki at 8,5k, and akrapovic site (and other dynos) say it's at 9k, where's the 3k rpm to spare when we both know that twins especially loose power rapidly after they peak. The limiter kicks in at 11k, and once again, bike is running ~210km/h at 9,5k, already outside it's power band.
The "easy" way would be to just make a short video of the needle "over" 220.. but 2 650Rs that I tried can't do that, not on a straight road without tail wind atleast.. and gearing says you should hit the rev limiter at around 230km/h, regardles of your mods or going downhill, the engine won't rev over 11k.
Yea, motorbike speedos tend to lie quite a bit. My GSXR speedo got stuck at 299 on airwaystrip, revs continued to rise, but real top speed was "only" 280, giving speedo error margin about 10%. 220kph indicated makes then 198kph real speed...
I JUST noticed the 250km/h on ER6n comment, I missed that one, and all I can say is .. LMAO! Either he has a broken speedo, or he changed the gearing on the bike and is NOT aware of the fact that it will affect speedo readings. Dude, 72hp bike CAN NOT do 250km/h+, WHATEVER you do to it, ESPECIALLY not a naked 72hp bike. Even the Z750 w/ 107hp on tap will struggle to reach 250km/h! There's just too many vids confirming this here on YT to list any, easy to browse/find.
Fair enough....but you've also said that my bike will struggle to reach an indicated 220. But in my vid description there is a link to a video where I do well over 220 with more to go.
Yeah, with the mods you did, and no one buy you knows if the road is flat or if there was any wind. You've probably read all of the official websites and ER6F reviews you can find on the web. Most of them said the top speed was around 135mph. The FZ6S fazer can do the 240-245km/h you're suggesting your bike can do, and it's got exactly 50% more power. 260km/h is ZX6R territory, and that's almost double the 650r's power. You got stock gearing?
Have you messed with the gearing at all? I'm curious, as I spent a week riding with a guy on an 08 650r last summer, and it didn't seem to accel. that fast...ever.
I'm not trying to be my usual asshole self either. Sometimes re-gearing for better accel will lead to higher top-end. Puts the RPMs where they need to be on some bikes which are aerodynamically limited to whatever mph. If you've regeared yours, then it's reasonable to think it'd go faster in the top end, as well as get there easier.
Gears are stock. And video isn't sped up. I did this to time myself. Most people don't know how to accelerate. That's the reason I've beaten Hayabusas in straight line races.....your average joe is scared to go full throttle.
Alternating riding a CB1000 and CB 750, my 750 now feels like a scooter. I still have more fun on the 750 but riding the 1000 is like riding a missile. Like you say-- in city traffic & twisty roads- a smaller bike is more fun, easier to handle but longer rides on freeways there's noting like a bigger bike. I love riding the 1000 on twisty roads too.
In general, a bike will be cheaper (not considering insurance rates) compared to a car. Because you can get a good bike for $1000 or less. But a good dependable car? Better spend more. Consider the weather in your area too. Rain/snow- cars are obviously better. Factor in insurance rates, well, for both, you can get basic liability, unless you are making payments on the vehicle, then you'll need full coverage. Motorcycle riding takes practice. Driving a car too, but motorcycles more.
ehh, just install some wheelee sprockets and you will feel power up front.. star vmax is too heavy for anything but straight line shit but get a suzuki bking and your talking some stuff. motorcyclist mag has a comparo for march 09
great vid and good explaination of the power bands, my vfr kicks in somewhere over so many thousand rpm, great feeling as the bike just suddenly feels and sounds completely differant, but as you say, i don't feel it now as much as i did when i first got the bike.
that road at the end looked... rural. And i had a go with a GPZ305 once, that kicked me back loads, and then back to my 50, which have no power anyway, felt powerless. But straight after, the powerbands started to be fun again
They are. In one of my videos I walk up to a complete stranger and play with his hair. And he just smiles while his friends laugh at him.....he was an Asian guy with a big fro.
At 1:38 he said 220 and seeing as how he said he wasn't going fast at all, I deduced that he was talking Km/H. If im correct, 220 Km/H is like 120 mph give or take 10 mph. dont quote me tho

yeah i know what yeh were talkin'about: body adusjment/power.. :D

I get that bracing for power-reaction when I drive my car and I floor the pedal to the metal - and I feel a bit stupid when nothing really happens. That remainded me, winter here is waayy too long, I've gotten used to my 55hp cage, it is staring to feel powerful :S
Reisi81 3 years ago
The 650r is -not- going to reach 250-260kph. It hasn't got the power in the first place, let alone the right power curve to put the hp/tq where they need to be. That thing is doing well to make 130mph indicated. Real speeds are even lower. If a motorcycle went as fast as the dial says it will, the VFR would be a 190mph bike...
Trinith 3 years ago
I commented on this a few posts back.
13mordeth 3 years ago
I made a few comments on this above, as I own the same bike. It will get VERY close to the end of the scale at around 217-218km/h, and of course, that's indicated, and probably NOT over "real" 205km/h. Not even in theory, with the gearing the bike has, there's no chance of 230km/h+ even downhill, as it will hit the rev limiter.
dbauernf 3 years ago
I put a vid link in the description.....I'm doing over 220 with a few thousand RPMs left to go. Maybe it's because I broke my bike in properly while most others didn't?
13mordeth 3 years ago
I broke my bike in just like you did, you'll probably hit 220 with the mods you did like the video shows, but there ISN'T "few thousan RPMs left to go", that's it! There's no more power beyond that mark in 6th! I've seen 220 with a topcase with a nice tail wind, so it's not impossible. 240, 250, 260 is..
dbauernf 3 years ago
Loving these vids, my RS125 have a power valve so when you get to 8000rpm it fly's like a turbo and it's only a 125. Also the CDI isn't de restricted so you get a dip from 5-7000 rpm so when you hit the power valve you get even more of a kick. Magic :O)

You need 50% more power then the 650R has to get to 250 ballpark, FZ6S and other 100hp bikes do ~250, depending on the gearing and fairings.
dbauernf 3 years ago
Hell, even the Ninja 636 (ZX6R) has "problems" over 255km/h if it's windy or you're not wearing proper clothes. Anywhu, a stock 650R can do INDICATED 214-218km/h.
dbauernf 3 years ago
My speedo goes up to 220 I think. And I've buried the needle with about 3000rpm to spare. And my friend has the ER6n and he got 250 or more on the digital speedo. Sooooo.....not sure what it's real top speed is......but indicated is at least 240.
13mordeth 3 years ago
Ok, we got it down from 260 to 240. Let's work on it a bit more. The bike indicates 130mph (209kmh) at 9500rpms in 6th gear. With the maximum power of the bike claimed by kawasaki at 8,5k, and akrapovic site (and other dynos) say it's at 9k, where's the 3k rpm to spare when we both know that twins especially loose power rapidly after they peak. The limiter kicks in at 11k, and once again, bike is running ~210km/h at 9,5k, already outside it's power band.
dbauernf 3 years ago
The "easy" way would be to just make a short video of the needle "over" 220.. but 2 650Rs that I tried can't do that, not on a straight road without tail wind atleast.. and gearing says you should hit the rev limiter at around 230km/h, regardles of your mods or going downhill, the engine won't rev over 11k.
dbauernf 3 years ago
Yea, motorbike speedos tend to lie quite a bit. My GSXR speedo got stuck at 299 on airwaystrip, revs continued to rise, but real top speed was "only" 280, giving speedo error margin about 10%. 220kph indicated makes then 198kph real speed...
Reisi81 3 years ago
I JUST noticed the 250km/h on ER6n comment, I missed that one, and all I can say is .. LMAO! Either he has a broken speedo, or he changed the gearing on the bike and is NOT aware of the fact that it will affect speedo readings. Dude, 72hp bike CAN NOT do 250km/h+, WHATEVER you do to it, ESPECIALLY not a naked 72hp bike. Even the Z750 w/ 107hp on tap will struggle to reach 250km/h! There's just too many vids confirming this here on YT to list any, easy to browse/find.
dbauernf 3 years ago
Fair enough....but you've also said that my bike will struggle to reach an indicated 220. But in my vid description there is a link to a video where I do well over 220 with more to go.
13mordeth 3 years ago
Yeah, with the mods you did, and no one buy you knows if the road is flat or if there was any wind. You've probably read all of the official websites and ER6F reviews you can find on the web. Most of them said the top speed was around 135mph. The FZ6S fazer can do the 240-245km/h you're suggesting your bike can do, and it's got exactly 50% more power. 260km/h is ZX6R territory, and that's almost double the 650r's power. You got stock gearing?
dbauernf 3 years ago
I already took back the 260 comment. I'm just saying my bike can do over 220 (indicated), close to 240.
13mordeth 3 years ago
Have you messed with the gearing at all? I'm curious, as I spent a week riding with a guy on an 08 650r last summer, and it didn't seem to accel. that fast...ever.
Trinith 3 years ago
I'm not trying to be my usual asshole self either. Sometimes re-gearing for better accel will lead to higher top-end. Puts the RPMs where they need to be on some bikes which are aerodynamically limited to whatever mph. If you've regeared yours, then it's reasonable to think it'd go faster in the top end, as well as get there easier.
Trinith 3 years ago
Gears are stock. And video isn't sped up. I did this to time myself. Most people don't know how to accelerate. That's the reason I've beaten Hayabusas in straight line races.....your average joe is scared to go full throttle.
13mordeth 3 years ago
you should know that 220 kmh even on a analog speedo means GPS at most 205-210 kmh IMO

I love riding the 1000 on twisty roads too.

bozzza69 3 years ago
In general, a bike will be cheaper (not considering insurance rates) compared to a car. Because you can get a good bike for $1000 or less. But a good dependable car? Better spend more. Consider the weather in your area too. Rain/snow- cars are obviously better. Factor in insurance rates, well, for both, you can get basic liability, unless you are making payments on the vehicle, then you'll need full coverage. Motorcycle riding takes practice. Driving a car too, but motorcycles more.
