You can't base ice being safe by tempreture or ice thickness in any one part.... Firstly and most importantly you need to know the lake and how it freezes, knowing this you will know the weakest part as it will be the part to freeze last. snow cover plays a massive part in ice thickness. If your not sure... dont play on it.

@TheLemonAid If it freezes 1 degrees you can say the ice grows with 1 cm. So when it freezes like 10 degrees below 0 celcius you can asumpt the ice 'grows' in thickness 10 cm, and 10 cm is enough to skate on. This is just good old fashion Dutch physics don't hold me accountable.... Butr it's what we skate on.

how can you tell if a frozen pond or lake is safe enough to skate on? I just dont want to fall through, I would be very greatful for some replies xx

@XxIceSkaterLauraxX When we want to know if it's safe we need to know how hard it has been freezing and if there's snow it could be bad. Mostly I always try to stand on it at a safe place and then go slowly farther and jump on it xP and then :P you can try to skate on it or even crazier with a bycicle over the ice xD Some of the smaller ones like to do that :P and also you can also look at how the ice looks like.
