Id say get some more practice whit that saw, and leave your chains at home cause they were the cause of your saw gettin stuck cause the tree had a funny ballance...keep up the good work and dont get killed whit those circus acts
ummm two words DUMB ASSES. when a tree is leaning like that you cutt it from the bottom. as you have learned it will pinch your saw if you cut from the top.
what a bunch of stupid idiots!!!! why don't we walk under the tree a few more times to see if it will fall on us and kill us!!!!!!!!! clearly not a licensed arborist.
I hate that when the saw gets wedged in (Pinched ) in the wood.... I usually go way overboard with cutting relief slices to stop that from happening... Then when it does happen, I am able to get my pry bar into one of the other 8 slices I cut... Great Video.. I always like seeing big wood cut up... Thanks for sharing....
@vidman008 That's a pretty good idea, I'm gonna have to try that. I usually have a spare chainsaw to get out of a pinch (Literally), but I loaned it out.
@805ROADKING An easy way to stop your saw from getting pinched is to saw half way or so down threw the tree.. then saw UP threw the rest of the way.... thats how i do it with all the wood i cut iv been cutting wood for years..just a tip id thought id throw out there
That is one big ass tree..... those saws are nice, had to cut up some cherry trees that were downed, like a hot knife through butter until you get the saw stuck, LOL
Great job guys. I know how hard that work is. We cut down a pine about twice that size. we cut the notch and then the back cut, and nothing happened. So as we were standing there wondering what to do a small breeze came up. So we watched it slowly fall, as we crossed our fingers that it would go in the right direction. Long story short, it fell just where we wanted it.
The video made it look like cutting a tree up was easy, but I know how hard you worked to get the job done. I have a Sthil model 44 magnum that saw is a real animal. Nowadays its about all I can do to work with it for more than a hour or so. When I was a bit younger it was nothing to cut fire wood for 3 to 4 hours with that saw.
@handclamp Thanks, I had a Commercial Homelite with a 4 ft blade like that, weighed about 50 lbs. I gave it away, it was more work trying to hold it then it was taking down a tree.
shoulda cut a notch about half of the way through the bottom of the trunk then another notch in the top and it would have dropped. and if you'd have left the chain on and pulled a truck or something back in the back yard you could have pulled the rest of the tree out too and then cut the whole ting up and been done with it all in one fell swoop
@805ROADKING how about you tie the chain and pulley to the base of the tree then and stand aside to pull the rest of the tree back down from where it came again to cut it up then? i am all about the sthil saws too the tree company i used to work for used only sthil and i found out why, you pretty much have a lifetime warranty on everything on that saw. they are the ONLY ones that do that too.
@daddytech There's still about 40 ft of that tree tangled among alot of trees, maybe someday it will fall in a storm, but it not in the way. If it does fall I will probably just leave it because it's just an unused wooded area. I've never had any problems with Sthil saws. Just change the blade and keep using it.
@805ROADKING oh yeah the sthil's rock for sure, one of the best saws i believe i've ever put my hands on. even stacked up next to the husqvarna's and they are supposed to be the cadillac. guess you'll have to just keep your eye out then when you go back to that part of the property, might be a headache waiting to happen for someone lol
@kookiemoose I agree!! I thought it would have come down already, each year it gets more top heavy and leans more over the pool. The Ole lady hates it. It's a Black Cherry tree and drops purple berry into the pool all Summer.
that tree hanging over the pool wouldn't be too difficult to drop if you do it right. Either pay someone to climb it and take it down in sections. Or, use a chain/rope and have tension on it in the direction you want it to go, then just notch it and do your back cut. It'll go almost exactly where you want it.
@fordfanatic100 I might give it a try, I'm to cheap to hire someone. I'm still trying to talk my Nephew into climbing it. There is plenty of room around it to drop it in sections.
@805ROADKING I helped a professional drop 2 trees one time we used the winch mounted on the front of his GMC 3500. he was cutting,of coarse, and I was operating the winch. I already had some tension on the cable when he gave me the signal to pull. I started pulling and the truck started moving forward. It was in PARK with the brake set. The tree was not moving. he had to notch it a second time, even then the truck moved a little but the tree finally came.
@SmallEngineMechanic I've seen it so bad that it takes 2 saws to clear a tree that is leaning like that. the first saw got pinched, so the guy got out his smaller saw to come up underneath the first one. he ended up getting both stuck, and broke the smaller one in two. some how he managed to get the tree dropped though.
