  • never heard this from jim

  • New favorite song of his, I think

  • If someone could PM me the chords (or just post them here!) i'd GREATLY appreciate it.

  • Never heard anything like that before - Kipling meets C&W!?!

Well done mate, really liked that.

  • 2 people didn't like their drink from gunga din

  • I had the original double album, The Faces I've been. when I was a kid. Unfortunately, it got sold to The Great Escape, old record store in Madison Tn. Imade some drawings of Jim on the sleeve's if anyone out there has this album, I, would love to buy it back.

  • Awesome! I had no idea the poem was ever put to music, much less by a master, like Croce. I think he really captured the spirit of Kipling with this interpretation.

  • Excellent!

  • Bravo. Brravo. You are better man than I am Gunga Din.

  • Absolute genius!!!!!

  • Great adaptation - The good die young.

  • I've been looking for this song for about 35 years. A very long time ago I had this on LP; a good friend let me hear it again on 8-track. Both were lost after my divorce and I haven't been able to find it since then. Thanks for reuniting me with an old friend and some great memories.

  • In the movie Sam Jaffe played Gunga Din

  • A good version of Kiplings poem.A tributeto all the[ bistes ] water carriers during that time.I call my grandson this ..his dad is indian and played for india and still does play in the NT..he takes out the drinks little gunga din [gunga din is a tommy atkins corruption of gunga deen.. meaning Spirit of the Ganges ..in hindi]

  • wow this song reminds me of the english movie once a hero... really good movie you guys should see it

  • I love this Jim Croce was a genius.

    Kind Regards

    Jim Clark

  • this guy's the best of all time

  • so beautiful!!!!!

  • This is amazing. A childhood memory that I had resigned myself to believe I'd never hear again. Thanks for posting this!

  • That makes two of us. It sent a chill up my spine then, and still does.

  • anyone know where i can get the chords for this song?

    its a tragedy Jims gone.

  • This always reminds me of driving in the car with my dad when I was a kid. Thanks for posting it!

  • wow..have never heard this before, not sung, and it is a treat to hear it from a musical master.

  • Borrowed this album and listened just a couple times before giving the album back. Haven't been able to find a copy since and that was 30 years ago. Thanks for appreciating two great artists and making them available for the rest of us.

  • Yes. One of the best if not the best song done by Jim Croce. First heard it playing in the chow hall at ZAB, AB in Spain in 1978

  • This song reminds me of my childhood. Thank you for the memories.

  • many many thanks for uploading this,,,awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • Darn good song. Got some tears from me the first time I heard it.

  • best track off a blinding album

  • Kipling lives!

  • hansw16,

Hope you like response I posted. Thought I would let it hang out with you for a while. It is from an audio tape Jim lent me. Gunga din was on it the tape too. Gave the tape to Ingrid a year or two ago. It was of a concert Jim & Ingrid performed decades ago.

    Best wishes my Youtube friend,

    rfk

  • i have this song on an album by jim it's called the faces iv'e been

  • That is correct

I have even two albums, a single and a double version, of the faces i've been

  • I got mine too back in 75. Side 4 with Jim narrating with the background music is such a wonderful tribute to his nature and wit.

  • This is seriously one of the best songs ever!!!

  • Of course you know the lyrics are from the Rudyard Kipling poem. Jim applied a wonderful melody to it.

  • @NYVoice Yo! Upper Darby Bill here. ( Jims hometown) So you dig this? Check out Jim's version of Robert Burns' (Ol' Lang syne) poem called 'The Ball of Kerrimuir'. Real good.
