Wow; what a disappointing bossfight. Gabranth is the villain you see on the fucking cover to the game - and you fight him in a fucking basement without any epic music score? Hell; Kratos fighting Perseus was a more epic fight than this. I am so glad I sold this game. Gabranth still looks cool, though... even though he's a Darth Vader rip-off. Then again, the whole game steals from Star Wars with no shame.

This right here is why XII will always be my favourite Final Fantasy in terms of its villains.

Nobody wanted to destroy the world for the evulz, nobody wanted to deceive the world with a fake religion... All the "big" villains had at least morally grey reasons for their actions, and that made them so much more interesting characters.

As someone who competes with his brother a lot, the Basch & Gabranth struggles resonated much more deeply with me than anything Sephiroth ever did.

I think that's why I liked XII's bad guys so much. Vayne, Venat, Gabranth... they all have much better reasons for choosing the side of evil.

Vaan was an idiot and Ashe was a witch with a capital 'B', but I liked the politics behind the game it made the world seem more real and I did enjoy the battle system. I found it to be a nice change up from the standard Final Fantasy random (and very annoying) battles.

For those that will undoubtedly say I'm not a purest. I've played almost all the major Final Fantasy games.
