Pussies? Get in any F1 car, from any year, and do one lap around the simplest track available at anything approaching racing speeds ...and if you haven't soiled yourself - or worse - perhaps you can convincingly call any F1 driver a pussy.

Come to watch a great lap on the Nord? First comment is great! Everything else is just a bunch of racism toward me and everybody who was born in my country.
Racism for the win. You know you're a fucking idiot if all you have to say about the Nordschleife is that "Americans can't turn right".
can anyone imagine lewis hamilton, alonso, button and webber and all those photo-opportunity wannabe playboy pussies now having to drive a car (not a computer) around this circuit? they would piss their pants and go home crying to their mothers. In the old days F1 drivers were playboys because they knew that life was pretty short and so they enjoyed themselves and nobody minded. now they are just pampered sportsmen like footballers. i shit on the pussycat dolls!!!!!!!!!
Kimi Raikkonen was definitely of the old mould. He didn't give a shit about press conferences and looking nice to all the sponsors. He just wanted the racing and the wild partying afterwards.
Little surprising Raikkonen once entered a snowmobile race under the alias "James Hunt"; who really was the ultimate playboy driver of the 70's.
@055697 Most of those drivers have completed hot laps around the Nordschleife. They haven't done so in an F1 car because the track hasn't suited F1 cars since the mid 1970's. congratulations on being ignorant, out of date, insulting and a hopeless wannabe yourself. According to formula one F1 Racing magazine of June 2006, BMW engineers had estimated that a BMW-Sauber F1.06 could lap in under 5:15.8 which equals to an average of 237 km/h (147 mph).
yes, bring it back. This video is awesome, and I wish I had a copy of the entire race.
Ladies and Gentlemen, trust me go to the Nurburgring and drive it for yourself. It is treated as a German National Toll Road, and you can drive this track at 1715 or 5:15pm every day. Check the schedules or call them as I did, and enjoy. It is big, huge fun. Also, visit the Tiergarten gas station as they have over one thousand model cars for sale, F1 steering wheels, and driving suits, shoes, and coffee.
Steffan Bellof only did this track in 6:11 because he was almost killing the car. Porsche made a wonderful car. Germany made a wonderful track. They don't build stuff like that anymore... plus, the top speed of the 2010 Red Bull is around 216mph,and the top speed of the Porsche 956 is around 235mph. Even Ferrari can't make anything that can do this track under 6 mins.... I must visit this track in my lifetime!! It is legendary!
@KEITHRICHARDSFAN101 they would easily do it in under 6, the lap record is held by a Porsche 956 from 1983 and is 6:11. I dont think they could do it in under 5 but it would certainly be 5min something. The track is a bit too bumpy for modern f1 cars. F1 cars now a days are designed to run on a billiard table smooth surface, so they wouldnt get on too well over the bumps
i think these were the turbo cars, they only ran them a short time in the 70's they were just plain too fast , some were nearing 245-50+ mph on the mosiane straight
I have this very footage transferred to dvd and when I managed to get hold of it, it was one of the best presents I ever had. You dont believe that it was going to be this good even when people talk about what it was like. Especially when you play it through an AMP with the exagerated volume levels this was recorded with. Its almost ike being there!
It is not a race track - it`s a drug ! And the only way to survive is : don`t ride there with a bike ! I`ve done over 5000 laps and than i crashed out of Adenauer Forst at 150 km/h , luckely with light injuries . After the crash i only ride a few laps again , but i stop to visit the Ring forever . My fastest laptime was 8.10 in the end .
The problem about this track is that it is dangerous as f... , although you cant see it on most of the videos on YT, everyone whos been there knows that the track is bumpy like hell and the surface is old and not comparable to modern racetracks. This wouldnt be so bad if the track wasnt so fast. The corners are mostly long, and if you are only a little bit too fast you just fly into the barrier.
But it would be interesting to have a modern series like F1 driving on it
that long flat-out bit just before the pit chicane must have been one of the most exhilerating drives in all of f1. just pedal to the metal!!!!!!!!! not enough of that these days sadly but f1 could never adequately marshal the nordschleife now with current health and safety considerations.
well I don't see how it would be much more dangerous than monaco these days ok the speeds would be higher but put a load of marshalls out there it would be no different
Beautiful cars and amazing drivers - you just can't beat a field of Ferrari, Lotus, McLaren, Tyrrell, Brabham, Shadow, March, Lola, Penske, Surtees, Hesketh et al with Lauda, Regazzoni, Fittipaldi, Mass, Reutemann, Pace, Peterson, Ickx, Depailler, Scheckter, Pryce, Jarier, Brambilla, Stuck, Hunt, Andretti, Watson, etc.. at the wheel.
@ Hmdwgf Der Rundenrekord von Niki Lauda Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Würde zu Keiner Zeit unterboten. Die 6.58.6 WIRD für Alle Ewigkeit Bleiben. Ich war Damals DABEI und Habe exaxt Diesen Tipp (This Zeit) bei Einem Quiz zum GP von Deutschland abgegeben und freiKarte Eine fürs Fahrerlager bzw. sterben Boxen GEWONNEN.
@honda900000 No, it was 1975. Airboxes were banned in 1976 which made the cars slower, probably due to a lack of engine power because of the reduced cooling. And James Hunt was on pole position in 1976 with a McLaren-Ford with a time of 7 minutes 6.5 seconds.
@ml2487 The Nordschleife's inability to keep up with the rapidly changing safety regulations is what led Nürburgring brass to build the Grand Prix circuit. But you're right. The combined courses would be a hell of a ride.
@ml2487 Do you mean to bring it back to Formula one racing? Sadly it will never happen in the nearest decades or so, but I'm optimistic. The F1 drivers of today are forced to race on clean, boring, soulless circuits mostly built by the Grim Reaper of motor racing Hermann Tilke. The only remaing exceptions nowadays is Monaco, Canada, Monza, SPA and Suzuka.
@ml2487 f1 will never come back to this track, still isn't safe for f1 cars, but it would be very cool to see what a modern f1 car could do for a lap time.
@Regret696 yeah, far too bumpy, but i would figure if a super-soft suspension was applied and the driver slowed down for bumps, the car may last for one lap...maybe.
helicopters can't realy go all that fast, at one point the blades on the forward stroke go faster than the speed of sound, rendering them useless. so top speed is limited by span with and rotation speed of the blades (exept for wierd stuff like the lynks)
Just the most beautiful sound in the world...with the exception of the Beatles of coarse! What an unbelievably dangerous race track!? As Niki Lauda found out in '76..I can hardly watch those F1 cars hammering down Nurburgrings' long straights is terrifying! Had anything happened they'd have had no chance..Despite F1's dark history it's still the greatest sport in the world bar none IMO. All the drivers hero's..Well fucking done Jenson! You top dude!! Yo! Hard luck Rubens! You did good sir. Hero!
they shouldnt make revisions to tracks for spectators sake, you may as well make ovals or go karts, just put up jumbotrons at the right spots and post up at your favorite corner, I'd sit at Flugplatz
with only 14 laps it is not great for live spectators.(recently there were plans to shorten spa for eg.) safety is a concern:with no runoff, crashes would be deadly, debris would litter the track endengering other competitors. vehicle recovery would take too long and medical assistance's response time would be inadequatly slow. you may as well wish for removing seatbelts in racecars, but it won't happen.
lol what on earth are you on about, there's not a driver on earth who wouldnt relish at the opportunity to drive this circuit maybe a few cars would crash but who cares no publicity is bad publicity
wtf man, im off to uni in 2 weeks to do motorsport engineering, why the hell are you "in the industry" if you dont wanna give someone an adrenaline rush??
wtf? Im sure team owners and series administrators would have issues with mass carnage... We don't like to throw money away for a bit of a 'rush'. It's a business. I hope you learn that in engineering school!
i hope i don't i love racing because drivers defy physics that technology is yet unable to control if we dictate every aspect (like business' want to) then we've done motorsport. cars evolve we should take them to the edge not move the edge to the car
the cars are infinatly safer and the track has been improved since 1975. This track should definatly come back, after all the best racing curcuits of the modern calendar are always the long oldies
Proper open wheeler racing cars, with proper tyres, being driven by men, not aerodynamic automatic shitboxes being driven by robots like todays F1 piles of crap
Its truly amazing how far aerodynamics have come. these days an average person could point out several aerodynamic flaws in these cars, let alone the ones from the early 60s.
they have to sanitize that track so much, i think alot of people wouldn't want it to happen. but i do support repairing the banking at monza! after watching Grand Prix the movie i would have to suggest concrete barriers with safer burriers and maybe a chicane on the back stretch of the oval but that would be awesome
Those cars look ridiculous with the giant intakes.

The worlds hardest track. 175 turns, 14 miles long, The unconquerable Nuburgring!!! All twisting through the German countryside.

It is hard thats true, but i love it!!!!

Id rather do pikes peak, the worlds highest track!
alexander1485 1 year ago
this is the year Niki Lauda lapped this track in under 7 minutes, when it was 14.7 miles long. incredible feat
hmdwgf 2 years ago 50
Does F1 go there anymore? if not, THEY SHOULD!!!
Motorsport1999 2 years ago 2
not as such, they now go to the nurburgring which can be seen at the start with the label 2007.
Jimmybobby1994 1 year ago
@ Hmdwgf Der Rundenrekord von Niki Lauda Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Würde zu Keiner Zeit unterboten. Die 6.58.6 WIRD für Alle Ewigkeit Bleiben. Ich war Damals DABEI und Habe exaxt Diesen Tipp (This Zeit) bei Einem Quiz zum GP von Deutschland abgegeben und freiKarte Eine fürs Fahrerlager bzw. sterben Boxen GEWONNEN.
Radwanah2007 1 year ago
@hmdwgf That was 1976 in qualyfing, not 1975
honda900000 6 months ago
@honda900000 No, it was 1975. Airboxes were banned in 1976 which made the cars slower, probably due to a lack of engine power because of the reduced cooling. And James Hunt was on pole position in 1976 with a McLaren-Ford with a time of 7 minutes 6.5 seconds.
hmdwgf 6 months ago
@hmdwgf Ok, you are right. I thought the lap was one day before the crash.

Bring it back! This track is EPIC!!!!!
ml2487 2 years ago 111
@ml2487 they will never bring it back this track was to demanding on the driver and the car sadly
crazyjonhere 1 year ago
@ml2487 Agreed
tranchedevie 1 year ago
@ml2487 You said it, my friend. Epic.
mulcajbm 1 year ago
@ml2487 problem is, if someone crashes, it takes about 5+ minutes to get to them, making this a very, very risky event.
alienjoe123 1 year ago
@ml2487 The Nordschleife's inability to keep up with the rapidly changing safety regulations is what led Nürburgring brass to build the Grand Prix circuit. But you're right. The combined courses would be a hell of a ride.
Kanjilearner 7 months ago
@ml2487 Do you mean to bring it back to Formula one racing? Sadly it will never happen in the nearest decades or so, but I'm optimistic. The F1 drivers of today are forced to race on clean, boring, soulless circuits mostly built by the Grim Reaper of motor racing Hermann Tilke. The only remaing exceptions nowadays is Monaco, Canada, Monza, SPA and Suzuka.
kzbxvz 6 months ago
@ml2487 the track isnt really good for the F1 cars
Ferrari123planb 6 months ago
@ml2487 f1 will never come back to this track, still isn't safe for f1 cars, but it would be very cool to see what a modern f1 car could do for a lap time.
lampliter25 5 months ago
@lampliter25
Its way too bumpy on some parts for current f1 cars, they'll be pieces breaking off and shit.
Regret696 5 months ago
@Regret696 yeah, far too bumpy, but i would figure if a super-soft suspension was applied and the driver slowed down for bumps, the car may last for one lap...maybe.
lampliter25 5 months ago
@lampliter25
Found a onboard vid of nick heidfeld doing a lap round the ring after i posted that comment :P Its in the suggestions
Regret696 5 months ago
@Regret696 it was also limited on speed, not sure the precise speed, but i think its limited to about 160 mph.
lampliter25 5 months ago
Watch from 6:40, as they go on the back straight - they start to out run the helicopter!
At 6:58, they pass the helicopter and the cameraman has to zoom in to keep up with them! That's fast!
Outrunning a helicopter!
bjsmaligalig070885 2 years ago 2
helicopters can't realy go all that fast, at one point the blades on the forward stroke go faster than the speed of sound, rendering them useless. so top speed is limited by span with and rotation speed of the blades (exept for wierd stuff like the lynks)

Hero!
Waitingforriki 2 years ago
they shouldnt make revisions to tracks for spectators sake, you may as well make ovals or go karts, just put up jumbotrons at the right spots and post up at your favorite corner, I'd sit at Flugplatz
buckyohare420 2 years ago
wow..good ol' days
mixxmexx 2 years ago 2
with only 14 laps it is not great for live spectators.(recently there were plans to shorten spa for eg.) safety is a concern:with no runoff, crashes would be deadly, debris would litter the track endengering other competitors. vehicle recovery would take too long and medical assistance's response time would be inadequatly slow. you may as well wish for removing seatbelts in racecars, but it won't happen.

bring back this!

yeah, ok.... on Playstation maybe
MsFarQ2 2 years ago
not a fan of racing then i take it
offitcock 2 years ago
lol huh WHAT?! I work in the industry, brother!
I meant you cant bring back this grand circuit toF1, unless you like bloodsport :P
MsFarQ2 2 years ago
lol what on earth are you on about, there's not a driver on earth who wouldnt relish at the opportunity to drive this circuit maybe a few cars would crash but who cares no publicity is bad publicity
offitcock 2 years ago
and that's why drivers don't make decisions, boy
MsFarQ2 2 years ago
wtf man, im off to uni in 2 weeks to do motorsport engineering, why the hell are you "in the industry" if you dont wanna give someone an adrenaline rush??
offitcock 2 years ago
wtf? Im sure team owners and series administrators would have issues with mass carnage... We don't like to throw money away for a bit of a 'rush'. It's a business. I hope you learn that in engineering school!
MsFarQ2 2 years ago
i hope i don't i love racing because drivers defy physics that technology is yet unable to control if we dictate every aspect (like business' want to) then we've done motorsport. cars evolve we should take them to the edge not move the edge to the car
offitcock 2 years ago
the cars are infinatly safer and the track has been improved since 1975. This track should definatly come back, after all the best racing curcuits of the modern calendar are always the long oldies

right on, fuck the fuzz!

lol robots ya the computers r advanced, but u'd spin the tyres in 2 sec. if u tried to drive one. Them drivers got skillzzzzzzz

Proper open wheeler racing cars, with proper tyres, being driven by men, not aerodynamic automatic shitboxes being driven by robots like todays F1 piles of crap

around 14-15 laps..

Amazing Video quality for 1975!
Great racing back in those days.
The F1 sure wont return to the Nordschleife, cause no one wants the track to be changed.
ScarfaceHood 2 years ago
Its truly amazing how far aerodynamics have come. these days an average person could point out several aerodynamic flaws in these cars, let alone the ones from the early 60s.
Scorch033 2 years ago
Next years cars are going to look like that because of the no refueling policy that Bernie has asked for

they have to sanitize that track so much, i think alot of people wouldn't want it to happen. but i do support repairing the banking at monza! after watching Grand Prix the movie i would have to suggest concrete barriers with safer burriers and maybe a chicane on the back stretch of the oval but that would be awesome
