I got it to 2.9GHz a while ago, but my cooler (Zalman CNPS9500) came with some quite dry paste... and I'm not sure I applied it 100% properly (This was my first PC build). I was getting temps of ~50C with it only at 2.9GHz, at idle. I'll try sometime with a better cooler.
Zalman cooling is meant to be top notch so i don't understand why u r getting so high temperatures. I made a pc with a E6550 and a Zalman CNPS 8000 and was running at 18C at IDLE!! I was thinking of buying the same PC apart from the Graphics Card. Is this a fault with the cooler or is it just human error?
Anyway, it's not running at 3.6GHz at around @46C.
By the way, 18C it likely impossible since it's below room temperature - it's more likely that the Tjunction reading's incorrect (or something like that), and it's chopped 15C off the temperature, which would take it to 33C, which is probably more likely.
I thought I'd replied to this.. anyway, I redid the thermal paste on my 9500, now I get 38c overclocked to 3.5GHz, which goes up to 46c maximum in games.

Bios and overclocking facilities say 18-22C. It was using a very high quality Gigabyte board which compared to the asus equivilent was 10-15C lower.
