@crombieposterboy true they do have lower gears but also the auto trans makes up for it in power loss, manual trans is the way to go for a off road rig, or you can always switch out the axles from a auto 4runner to a manual 4runner and its win win, a buddy of mine did that and saved a bunch of money.

Yea that sucks that all the turbo's have automatic transmissions! I've been thinking about putting a turbo onto my 22re. It has a 5spd too, so that'd be pretty cool I think.

No. All Turbo's are not AT. All the 4Runners are. The trucks were a 5speed with an AT option.

if u do that u can only run 2 to 3 psi of boost without having to change injectors/pistons rings ex, the 22ret motor has a lower compression ratio than the 22re motor

they are not all automatic my brother had a 86 factory stick shift turbo truck they are very hard to find in a stick though!!

@1boostup I recently found and bought an 86 SR5 22RET truck and it is a 5 speed, this truck was all original with factory aluminum wheels, I got it cheap with the intentions of cleaning it up some and turning it for a quick buck, but I after completing a partial restoration I found myself driving it more and more, It is now my daily driver while my '09 Toyota pickup sits in the driveway.

so buy it and just take the fly wheel and clutch off your standerd 22re and put it on the turbo motor out of the automatic

@jdamion Its not like you can't rip out the auto tranny and bolt a 5sp up to it... its not rocket science... and it's cake to do.. only thing you have to worry about is ECU wiring...
