Everyone has to make that decision for themselves. I am in a semi rural area but close to a small city. Before I leave, there will have to be rioting in the streets and generalized lawlessness. I am a tank and a half of gas from where I 'want" to be if it gets really bad. Otherwise I am staying put. Refugee is not a class I want associated with me, so if I can stay where I am, I will. But again, I am semi rural and lots of agriculture around me and a long growing season (southeast).

So if things really get as bad as the end time prophecy says they will. Then you know that the living will end up envying the dead. So we who believe should not hang onto life by doing evil.

Hopefully before: money becomes worthless; riots & roundups begin & curfews are imposed. Unfortunately, not everyone will make it. The more prepared people are, the better everyone's chances. I think martial law is more of a reality in the event of government collapse, than the 'katrina'-like disaster scenario that most TSHTF people present. You may know 'when' TSHTF, by it may be too dangerous, or forbidden to leave or enter certain areas by that time. Military and para-military groups will have the advantage over the individual in the event of a break-down of civilized order & control. I'm not positive or psychic, look at Iraq when their regime fell? A more likely reality for us 2?
SHTF is when yellowstone volcano erupts near the end of 2013. I am a nurse, 18 years critical care, and I am of like-mind with Patriot nurse because I went into hurricane Katrina and saw first hand who died first. You sound hopeless but must find courage. For me, family will come first but once I know my family are okay, I will be available for others. I would rent a place out of of town when the SHTF. There should be plenty of vacant properties. Time to flee would be when people act desperate.
If you see people around you, in your neighborhood or state, acting in desperation like mass migrations, looting. Jobs and food become scarce. Police began to act desperately or abandon their jobs. If you don´t feel safe with the police anymore. These are all signs that things are seriously wrong.
You can also use your gut. For example, if things don´t feel right, you can take a vacation away from home for a while and watch things from a distance. Good luck to you.

I would only bug out if i live in a city/ suburb, if you live in a rural /country area i would stay put. You know it's time to leave the area when the food truck stops supplying your local supermarket, that's when the people will start to turn on each other. best advice I can give about your mom is to look for any and all natural substitutes for insulin. I don't know of any off hand but worth researching imho. American preppers network and preppergroups is good for finding others nearby. Starting or joining a local neighborhood watch is a good way to get to know those around your immediate area also
Sorry, best to be out of the city. It is harder for ill people as they may have turned to the system for help and that is a trap as the drugs can be very damaging and hard to live with or without and the condition remains untreated. It will happen gradually, that by the time we know we're WROL, it's too late. The consequences of WROL are somewhat unpredictable. My plan is to bug IN. Keep a low profile, live off food stores, work with my neighbors for security issues (important to live in a good neighborhood!) Wait a few months, assess the situation. Maybe by then govt will be reestablished, my neighborhood will establish one, or I really will have to bug out. I say, be prepared to just wait and see.

Comment #3 of 3 - My great uncle is 93 now. During the cold war, he stockpiled food, water, weaponry and ammunition, all in his basement, and nothing ever happened. That's not to say nothing ever will, but it may not within his lifetime. I want to be prepared, but I don't want it all to be for nothing. I won't be able to get most of my friends and family on board, so I'd be leaving them behind too. It's a lot to sacrifice for a situation that seems so imminent but may not be.

It will happen gradually, that by the time we know we're WROL, it's too late. The consequences of WROL are somewhat unpredictable. My plan is to bug IN. Keep a low profile, live off food stores, work with my neighbors for security issues (important to live in a good neighborhood!) Wait a few months, assess the situation. Maybe by then govt will be reestablished, my neighborhood will establish one, or I really will have to bug out. I say, be prepared to just wait and see.

I wonder if its a matter of life becoming unbearable at whatever you set as a level you are comfortable with--when you reach that point, its time to go. So it seems to me everyone needs to sit down and decide FOR THEMSELVES what events are on your "Time to go" checklist. Is it the banks closing, the price of rice reaching X dollars..? When that, whatever "that" is, happen then its time to go.

Comment #3 of 3 - My great uncle is 93 now. During the cold war, he stockpiled food, water, weaponry and ammunition, all in his basement, and nothing ever happened. That's not to say nothing ever will, but it may not within his lifetime. I want to be prepared, but I don't want it all to be for nothing. I won't be able to get most of my friends and family on board, so I'd be leaving them behind too. It's a lot to sacrifice for a situation that seems so imminent but may not be.

I've come to the conclusion that I should absolutely get out of here now - to move to the country or something, but that this is not the place to be. But, do I give up my job, sell off my possessions, and stockpile goods - basically go to the country and start living the SHTF lifestyle now? What if nothing happens for 5 or 10 years? However unlikely, what if nothing ever happens?

Comment #1 of 3 - I ask myself the same question. I basically live in the city - more suburb, but not necessarily safe. I certainly have a lot of druggies and government handout takers around me, and there's no way my home would be safe. I could not defend it alone, that's for sure - there are too many people around me and I would never be able to sleep.

I hear what You are saying, and it is a good question.I do not know if I have the answer, It could happen fast such as a false flag attack on the USA and martial law would be declared at that moment, if that happens You will need to move fast with pre set plans. If You live in a large city You will only have hours to get into action. I will tell You this if martial law is declared do not think about it ( MOVE AND MOVE FAST.)

Just as in cases of natural disaster, you leave when cirumstances become too dangerous to remain at home.
1. Mass demonstrations such as we are seeing overseas
2. No electricity for more than 4 days
3. All communications shut down
4. Local police, fire and rescue stretched beyond capacity by multiple incidents
5. Government implimenting Martial Law to get population under control
By far not a complete list, but to help get you thinking.

Remember the story about how fast you have to run to escape a grizzly bear? (Just a little faster than your friend). It will be time to go just before everyone else panics and clog the supermarkets and freeways. Good video, dude. This is a question we ask ourselves, and I guess there's no easy answer. There's a fine line between going too early, and going too late. I suppose it would be up to the individual to make our own decision. I would be interested to see if there is any more postings in reply. Happy trails, brother.

Look for this plant STEVIA, is an natural edulcorant. In some places it is said that the use of this plant can cure diabetes, just bayer and cia not interested in people having easy cures rather than expensives med cures. I don´t know about USA but here in Europe you can find some in plants stores.
You are right, we prep but... I think better not waiting and getting save already.
